Tulsa Gets a Shot

Only East Carolina has shown much life for Conference USA in the bowls.
The Pirates are the only team from the league that has won. And, it was impressive, a victory over Boise State.
Still, the rest of the league has done little to enhance a reputation that has continued to slide since the league was overhauled three years ago.
Tulsa gets a chance to help the reputation when it plays Bowling Green on Sunday. A victory would help salvage some respect for a league that doesn't really have a high-profile victory over the last three years.
In fact, Tulsa is still the only league champ to have a bowl victory during a championship season.
TU finished the 2005 C-USA Championship season by beating Fresno State in the Liberty Bowl.
Since then, the Liberty Bowl has changed its affiliation from a WAC team to a Southeastern Conference team.
As a result, the C-USA champ now faces a mid-pack SEC team.
As a result, Houston was beatenj by South Carolina in 2006 and Central Florida was beaten by Mississippi State a few weeks ago.
A Tulsa victory over Bowling Green wouldn't solve all of C-USA's problems but it would be a step in the right direction.
