USA Today Ignores Landry Jones
Published: 5/1/2012 4:23 PM
Last Modified: 5/1/2012 4:23 PM

In the May 1 front sports page story in USA Today, that publication lists its top ten draft picks for 2012-13:
1. Matt Barkley, USC qb.
2. Robert Woods, USC catcher.
3. Jarvis Jones, Georgia lineman.
4. Sam Montgomery, LSU defender.
5. David Amerson, North Carolina State corner.
6. Marcus Lattimore, runner, South Carolina.
7. D. J. Fluker, lineman, Bama.
8. Barkevious Mingo, defender, LSU.
9. Manti Te'o, Notre Dame defender.
10. Logan Thomas, Virginia Tech qb.

The top ten is dominated by USC and the SEC.

Shocking in his absense is: OU quarterback Landry Jones.

Not even in the top ten!

He sure would have been this year.

It appears that the secret could be out: Landry Jones is fair to average against the best teams, he's great against the dogs.

Landry not concerned, I'm sure. USA Today does not draft and employ NFL players. Next season has not played itself out. Even if the 10 listed are the first 10 picked, he could be number #11. Not too shabby.

Landry and the Sooners should use this disrespect as motivation. There is nothing like BS bulletin board material to make a team come out and hit you in the mouth. Best of luck to the Sooners with what's his name at QB.

There are dogs in the NFL too. He will be fine. His wife to be will make a decent living for them if he is a bust.

Hey Picker, why do you have a catcher on the list, isn't your story about football?

2. Robert Woods, USC catcher.

Matt, he means catcher of the football. Woods is a WR.

Ho Hum. Must be a slow news day when USA Today predicts draft picks a year out, and the Picker finds it worthy of comment. For that matter, at least six of us bothered to read it and post a comment.

I don't see how Landry Jones is anywhere near a top ten draft prospect. Just watch the replay of the games against good teams when Jones was throwing the ball all over the yard to random places, including to the other team.

As someone commented last season: "Landry Jones is the Tony Romo of college football". He would great in some games and terrible in some games.

Out Pick The Picker

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
