USC Different Than PSU

USC is coming off a two-year bowl ban and NCAA sanctions this fall in the wake of the Reggie Bush scandal.
The Trojans are perhaps the nation’s most-talented team and are the consensus preseason No. 1 in the nation.
A bowl ban and reduced scholarships didn’t seem to slow down the USC football machine.
There are some that believe Penn State may emerge from its four-year bowl ban and the loss of as many as 80 scholarship over the next four years without a lot of damage.
That might happen but Penn State’s penalties would seem to indicate a long fall from the elite of college football.
USC is in a completely different situation than Penn State.
Yes, both are considered among the elite in college football.
However, where USC is located and how the Trojans operate in southern California is far different than Penn State, located in a small town in the middle of Pennsylvania.
Yes, Pennsylvania has a lot of great young high school football players.
However, there are probably more great high school football players with 50 miles of the USC campus than there is in the entire northeast region of the United States.
Secondly, USC’s culture of football is different in many ways from Penn State.
Yes, college football is important at USC.
No, college football at USC is not the all-consuming sport that it is at Penn State.
Penn State is football.
USC is football, beaches, sunshine, movie stars, surfing and everything that Hollywood offers. USC football is an important thing at USC. College football at USC is not the only thing like it is at Penn State.
USC is emerging from its three years under the NCAA hammer with little damage.
We’re not sure the same will be said about Penn State in four years.
