UTEP's Lamaison wants to be best quarterback on the field when playing Sooners

The quarterback is perhaps the most confident player on a college football team.

UTEP’s Nick Lamaison is no different. The second-year starter for the Miners has been looking forward to the Sept. 1 season opener against Oklahoma for much of the summer.

“We’re coming into the game confident,” said Lamaison during Conference USA Media Day in Dallas last month. “It’s not really who you are playing, but what you are doing as a team and how you perform. The only thing we can focus on is handling our part of the deal.”

Lamaison spent a redshirt season at Tennessee in 2009 before transferring to Mt. San Antonio (California) College, where he also began his college career. At UTEP last season, the senior connected on 130-of-224 passes for 1,718 yards with 12 TDs and 10 interceptions.

He has high expectations for himself, especially in a few days when he’s competing against the Sooners and prolific quarterback Landry Jones.

Lamaison wants to be the best quarterback on the field in the Sun Bowl on Sept. 1.

“I’ve seen him play and he’s a great player and I have a lot of respect for him, but Sept 1, if he’s the guy, or whatever quarterbacks come into a game, you always want to outperform the other guy,” Lamaison said.
