Unusual attendance patterns at Oklahoma State
Published: 9/5/2010 2:04 PM

It is impossible to get a feel for the tendencies of Oklahoma State football fans.

For the season opener against Washington State, there was a crowd of 48,962. It ended a streak of eight consecutive home games of at least 50,000 in attendance.

An OSU spokesman said more tickets already have been sold for this week’s game – against Troy of the Sun Belt Conference – than were sold for the opener against a Pac-10 opponent.

In 2008, OSU had a bigger crowd for the Troy home game than for the Texas A&M home game. Last year, there was a bigger crowd for the Grambling State home game than for the Missouri home game.

Alot of it depends on what type of groups they invite (i.e. 4-H day, Vetrans Appreciation Day, etc...)

I think it had everything to do with the game being on Labor Day weekend. The Grambling game had a lot of tickets sold because of the price and promotion of the game.

With that said, I really did expect more to show up for the season opener. I hope that after last night's performance the fans realize that this is going to be a team they do not want to miss this season!

It's Labor Day weekend- OSU tickets or gas for the boat? hmmmmmmm

They pulld in over 53K against Georgia game last year. Then again that was opening day of the stadium and it was Georgia.

Had nothing to do with labor day weekend. If a good team was in Stllwater it would have been well attended.

I hate to agree with hootie, but if OSU had played Georgia or any credible team the attendance would have been 50K plus.

It's simple, good teams will be attended well. Teams like WSU, well save your money.

Did you notice by 3rd quarter maybe 25k were in the stadium

mexican

your predictions are one for two

You predicted 55,000 attendance, not even close

Score you predicted 38-17, Congrats you got that. You just did not realize how bad WSU could play.

Predicted to finish 5th or 6th this year, so most casual OSU fans thought we would be terrible. Thus, don't want to pay steep prices for a poor product.

Blowout Wazzu, different mindset created. Casual Poke fan thinks, "Oh, let's get tickets to the next one..." Next one happens to be Troy.

Grambling attendance was due to cheap tickets.

Troy tickets were cheaper than Aggy tickets.

Apathetic fan base, high ticket prices, 100 years of mostly bad football. Throw it all in a pot and you have the mindset of an OSU fan/alum.

Well said, Island Poke
