SAN ANTONIO [-] Credit Kevin Klintworth, Oklahoma State's associate athletic director for media relations, with the brilliant decision to bring cornerback Martel Van Zant to meet with Big 12 football media members.
Van Zant is totally deaf. He constantly is accompanied by an interpreter, Allie Lee. Whether interacting with coaches or reporters, Van Zant always is assisted by Lee.
A sweet-natured guy with a great sense of humor, Van Zant might have been the most entertaining player during the three-day Big 12 media function. He was a hit not only with the print reporters, but also with television and radio media members. Van Zant even did some live radio interviews.
``Martel was like a rock star,'' Klintworth said. ``Did you see all of the cameras following him around?''
Van Zant represents Oklahoma State extremely well off the field, and the 6-foot-1, 210-pound senior has developed into a solid defensive back.
