NORMAN — Count Oklahoma linebacker Travis Lewis among those who think Oklahoma-Texas should never move.
Ever.
Not to Jerry World, not to Norman, not to Austin.
For Lewis, OU-Texas is right where it’s supposed to be, if for no other reason than the State Fair of Texas.
“I just love the atmosphere of it all,” Lewis said Monday. “The fairgrounds, the smell of the funnel cakes, everything that surrounds this game and the hype of this game. Last year I had a funnel cake. I think I'm going to stick with that. I'm going to tell my parents if they don't bring me a funnel cake after the game, it's on. Maybe a corn dog or a turkey leg.”
Those who know Lewis might not think there’s anything traditional about him.
But when it comes to fair food, give Lewis the old stand-bys any day.
“I don't believe in that fried Coke, fried Snicker bars. People are going to kill themselves. I wanna know the statistics of the heart attacks at the state fair.
“Funnel cakes are OK. It's not fried upon fried. I don't know how you can fry Coke. It's mind-boggling. I don't know people are thinking. They fry butter, anything that will give you a heart attack quicker. They'll take 20 years off your life at the state fair.
“The stuff they give us after the game isn't as good as the stuff they serve at the state fair, that's for sure.”
