WNBA or College Stuff?
Published: 7/21/2009 4:19 PM

Attendance is required more often than not at the following:

TU football and basketball.

OU football.

OSU football and basketball.

The Thunder (when somebody nice is visiting).

Now comes the notion that the WNBA might come to town, and if it does, we're to consider ourselves lucky to have it.

Yeah, well.

Would I go to a WNBA game tomorrow night if a ticket cost $40?

No.

Would I go to a WNBA game tomorrow night if somebody game me $40.

And a beer?

And a hot dog?

And free parking?

Probably.

In a challenging economy, you go first with what's best, and what matters the most to you.

Have that (4 years ago)
Unless I am being paid to go, or I've won an evening with Jessica Biel naked, or I have been handcuffed and strapped down to the seat from the night before...there is no way I would ever go watch the WNBA.

I seriously tought that they had disolved this league like the XFL and other failed ideas...I had no idea it was still around.

I'm not trying to rip on their talent level. I know theres a lot of girls out there that would take me to town on the basketball court, mainly because I grew up wrestling and my only experience with roundball is a stiff game of HORSE, but also because there are some very talented women athletes.

But in all seriousness...this is a doomed idea that would fail badly from day 1.

Do I have to listen to people claiming Candace Parker "dunked" if I go?

1) you got yourself a typo...
" Would I go to a WNBA game tomorrow night if somebody game me $40." Unless that's a new street slang I imagine that one of the editors got a degree from a "fine state skhOUl" and enjoys a sweet mesh hat from walmart.
2) Picker I agree with the article, but you forget about the WNBA's massive player salaries... those women make MILLIONS (of peso's) and live like teachers without summer jobs. Something must be right with the "great fundamentals" to pay so highly.
3) do you think we can get a professional cricket or badminton team to play the off season? It should sell the same dozen tickets

Actually badminton and cricket might do better, they have the "new and different" factor. I can go almost anywhere and catch a good basketball game.

Maarek except to a WNBA game

The Thunder will sell out every game because every home game they get to see the 3rd best player in the NBA play. OKC will be the top team in their division in 2-3 years and will be a finals contender. The Thunder sure beat going to a little League field to watch a minor league baseball team. At any rate I think The Picker should stop whining about the Thunder and actually try to go to one of their games. He'll try but will not be able to get in. It will be sold out.

This is a horrible idea. It will only take away from the already too little attendance of our other local sporting events.

Is this Tulsa's cheap way of trying to match OKC?

"Hey, we have the NBA now, too...sort of."

If so, it's pretty pathetic.

You sure you're not from OKC Mex? You seem to hate on your town a lot. You're probably one of those not in attendance but don't miss anything in Stoolwater.

Out Pick The Picker

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
