Weather Adds to a Major Tournament

Rain washed out the first round on Thursday at the U.S. Open.
Had the tournament been in Tulsa on Thursday, it would have been brutal heat, although not as hot as the 2007 PGA Championship.
Still, weather is a part of U.S. Open and PGA Championship history.
That's part of the challenge of the tournament. Players may have to deal with wet conditions. They may have to survive brutal heat. Or, they have to fight with the wind.
Weather is a part of golf. For instance, Pebble Beach can be a breeze on a beautiful cool day with little wind.
Or, with heavy winds blowing off the Pacific and rain, it can be almost unbearable.
So, as the players started fighting with Bethpage on Friday, weather was a major factor. Weather forecasters say there could be more heavy rain on the weekend.
Weather doesn't detract from a major championship. It adds to it.
