Weeden Continues to Post Huge Numbers
Published: 11/20/2010 4:05 PM

Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden is the guy folks should be talking about this week.
Weeden has been overshadowed during OSU's 10-1 season by the sensational seasons of wide receiver Justin Blackmon and running back Kendall Hunter.
Blackmon and Hunter are having great years and deserve the attention.
But, without Weeden's deadly accurate passing, OSU's high-flying offense wouldn't be much.
Weeden has been better than just about everyone expected and he has become a legitimate all-conference candidate.
Weeden warmed up in the second half of a 48-14 victory over Kansas on Saturday. He hit 31-of-43 passes for 389 yards and three touchdowns. Just another typical day at the office.
But, what has become the norm for Weeden is record-breaking for the Cowboys.
OSU has a chance to win its 11th game against Oklahoma. No one should doubt the importance of Weeden in OSU's season and its chances against OU.

I think the media experts (Tulsa World included) are and have been the ones doubting his chances. You guys love to remind everyone he is 27 in each article you write. Just face it, you missed the diamond in the rough. OSU fans all caught a glimpse of his capabilities during the Colorado game. This really isn't shocking to those who follow OSU football.

Weeden's strength, accuracy, and maturity have all been well documented, but I think the most important quality he has is the ability to remain unperturbed when things don't go as planned. Case in point: During the KU game, Weeden fumbles the ball from center. He picks it up, runs away from the collapsing pocket, and throws a perfect pass for a nice gain.

This intangible quality is something that all championship players seem to possess.

Hedged,
I think your are overreacting a bit, especially since even the coaching staff may not have predicted the kind of season that Weeden is having. Remember that Weeden was the 3rd string QB last year and entered the Colorado game only after Alex Cate was ineffective for the entire first half. As all OSU fans, I was pleasantly surprised by Weeden's arm strength in the CU game last year, but no one could have predicted his ability to read defenses and his sharp decision making. Those are not innate qualities (particularly for someone who hadn't started a game since 2001) and have undoubtedly improved during the off-season and over the course of this season. Weeden has done a terrific job. But, don't overlook the enormous improvements he has made.

Weeden does play the whole game most of the time for some stupid reason. Gundy needs to get him out of there before he gets hurt. He had no business playing in the 4th quarter at Lawrence.
