Weekend pick

All this Dallas-to-the-Bowl stuff: It might be a good idea if Dallas even GOT to the playoffs.

Last week, NO showed the world how to defend Romo.

The Saints had their defensive ends move forward five yards and stop.

Inside the pocket, Romo looked like any other new quarterback looking to get lucky.

Atlanta wins here, and unless the Giants and Eagles play through overtime to a tie, there are going to be a whole lot of nervous 8-6 teams heading into the last couple of weekends.

Dallas-Atlanta is on the NFL Channel.

Play-by-play announcer Bryant Gumbel is as bad at this as he is good hosting Real Sports on HBO. Thursday night during the SF-Seattle game, he called runner Frank Gore, Al Gore.

Our pick is a major upset -- Atlanta over the Cowboys.

I'll hit your last three blogs here.

Peterson won't survive 5 NFL seasons if he tries to run over everyone. He is a downhill runner, so he better learn to "feel" the hits coming and get lower at impact. You gotta love his heart and determination to finish every run. His speed is outstanding. All running backs get hammered in the NFL, which makes the durable ones extremely valuable and amazing to watch.

I like the tone of your Arkansas comments. Student athletes (and their families) need to take great care in selecting a SCHOOL and coach before signing on the dotted line. They need to realize that every season is a new season, and that personnel dictates what an offense/defense does. In a couple years, when Mustain is more experienced, perhaps Nutt throws it a bit more. But honestly, when you go to Arkansas, you better understand that the running game will be highlighted. If, as a WR, you want to see 50 passes a game fly, then you better go to Tech, Hawaii, or the WAC. In the end, more players in all positions need to sign with a school they feel comfortable with, and stick it out in the face of all but the worst of circumstances. If you are a star, the NFL combine will show it. Ask Marques Colston.

As for Dallas, they have a shot at the Bowl. It's a small shot, but a shot none the less. Romo may indeed throw better on the run than in the pocket. Regardless, the Cowboys need to stay balanced to win, as only to most seasoned QB's can win consistently without a good running game to keep the wolves from pinning their ears. Also, they need to figure out how to use Roy in a better way than in the back of a two deep coverage. If Dallas can't keep from giving up the big plays, they won't win their first round game, if they get there.
