First-year football players (including freshmen, junior college transfers and transfers from four-year colleges) are off-limits for interviews at Oklahoma State and that’s more interesting than ever before.
Here’s why: The quarterback is the most-interviewed player on most teams and OSU’s starting quarterback is first-year freshman Wes Lunt. Barring a policy revamp, there are no plans to make Lunt available to questioners this season.
Senior guard Jonathan Rush was among players invited to attend a Thursday press conference at Boone Pickens Stadium. He agreed to have some fun and pretend to be Lunt for a brief question-and-answer session.
Tulsa World: Hey “Wes,” are you nervous about your first start?.
Fake Wes: “Ummmmm.”
Tulsa World: Wes, if you hadn’t enrolled at OSU in time for spring drills, do you think you would have had any chance to start the season opener?
Fake Wes: “The thing about Wes Lunt is Wes Lunt isn’t afraid to be Wes Lunt and Wes Lunt is nothing but greatness.”
Tulsa World: Your brother is a college quarterback. Are you going to call him for advice before the opener?
Fake Wes: “Yes, I will. I love my brother to death.”
Tulsa World: Will you be overwhelmed by the attention you get as a quarterback at a Division I program?
Fake Wes: “No I won’t because they don’t make do interviews my first year. They just make my offensive line do it for me.”
Tulsa World: Speaking of the offensive line, what do you think about your offensive linemen?
Fake Wes: “I think they are great. Jonathan Rush is probably the best-looking offensive lineman I have ever had.”
Tulsa World: When the lights go on Sept. 1, how do you think are you going to react?
Fake Wes: “It’s old hat. I’m going to go out there and do the best I can. Go Pokes.”
