What About Westbrook Now Fools?
Published: 5/10/2011 2:30 PM
Last Modified: 5/10/2011 7:25 PM

Unfortunately the media is comprised mostly of homers, or people who couldn't pick the winner of the replay.

If somebody can't be objective, or pick a winner, why read, listen or watch?

The media is all about out-opining the next person, luring with nutso contrarian views an audience no advertiser in his or her right mind would want to be in the same room with.

Just before breakfast Tuesday morning, Thunder guard Westbrook was being interviewed on national TV after he scored 40 points and helped to lead OKC to an amazing victory over Memphis. The interviewer asked Westbrook how he was holding up after a week of being criticized by yokels and hacks alike for shooting too much, and assorted other alleged errors. Westbrook said the week had been rough, all right, but that he felt better now.

Westbrook is what he is. Wild. Daring. Excellent. His great plays usually exceed his errors by one. He has played a large role in getting the Thunder where it is.

The national media suckers have already given the divisional title to Dallas, simply for having beaten the feuding, aging LA Puddles. Despite what anybody says, all remaining contests are up for grabs. Enjoy the games. Don't believe what you see anywhere but here.

In other sports news, somebody said TU coach Wojo was on the list for the A&M job.

Yeah?

What sport?

Thank you, Picker. I couldn't agree more. Once the Thunder hit a little speed bump in the current series with Memphis the "critics" came out in droves. Westbrook shoots too much, Ibaka won't shoot the jumper, Harden is too tentative. These guys are all so young and still finding their way. They are who they are at this time and it seemed to be good enough to get them a series win over Denver and possibly more. Thanks, David

It's disgusting that so many in the media and the rest of the sports "enthusiasts" excoriate a young man after he had one bad game. If this is so important in a negative way for so many people, I'd have to say to these immature, souless harpies, "Get a life." Leave the poor kid alone.

Are you guys kidding? I could score forty points if you give me 50 minutes and 33 shots to do it... Westbrook is exactly what people say he is, a self-centered, overrated turnover machine.

Really, Cowboy? 40 points in 50 minutes. Maybe you should go for a try out.

'His great plays usually exceed his errors by one."

Probably true, but that's what makes Westbrook so hard to watch...
But What Do I Know? (last year)
KD has a long term contract. I don't know if RW does. If he doesn't then he will eventually be a restricted free agent and if not signed by the Thunder will become a free agent. So what will his detractors say at that time?

"We need a real point guard. Let him move on."

or

"You know, the guy's sometimes hard to watch, but he's pretty good too. Let's keep what we have and not take a chance on someone better, or someone worse. He's a big reason why we're where we are."

I bet lots of other teams would love to have him.

These playoffs are nice in the fact that your team gets paced underneath a microscope the opinions about them start flying in from everywhere....

Without the playoff spotlight, who cares....

With the playoff spotlight every outsider looking in can become an expert overnight because whatever they say or write is just as brilliant as all the other idiots alongside them & because of all the idiots beside them, the stupid, dumb & dumber comments aren't viewed as stupid, dumb & dumber anymore, they are now the consensus....

My own comments once viewed by myself as flavorful neopolitan have now become just plain ol' vanilla....

Cowboy88: Surely you are joking about thinking you could even step on an NBA floor and score 1 point, let alone 40. Youre probably the guy who sees a PGA player have a bad day and shoots 76 and say 'shoot, I shot 76 at La Fortune last weekend, I could beat that guy.' What a fool. By the way Pick, not all of us lost our mind about Westbrook...Ive though he was our best all-around player all year and im in the minority on that opinion.

How about this to detract all you Westbrook fans: He leads the league in TOs (40 more than any other guard)and is a whopping 73rd in A:TO ratio. Yet despite all that you people still support him for some reason. You see unlike you brainwashed fans I can look past his athletic ability and flashiness and see his inability to manage a team, his poor decision-making ability and terrible attitude. The best thing the Thunder can do is use him as a trading chip for someone else.
But What Do I Know? (last year)
Cowboy88 are you really Gretchen Wyler?
Cowboy88 (last year)
Oh ouch, you sure know how to get under somone's skin don't you? Is that because you don't have any real argument as to why you people still support the kid?

When you are 22 years' old you still have a wealth of knowledge to attain....

To have people give up on you when you are 22 is a sad telling statement on the people who toss you aside rather than on the 22 year old....

How does anyone know someone else has a terrible attitude unless they know them personally ????

When I see a 22 year old with the flashy athletic ability that Westbrook has, I'm gonna take the opportunity to give him the TIME to LEARN his craft, because with him on my side at THIS TIME with his shortcomings, he has the THUNDER in position to compete for the NBA title....

Just think what he will do when he expands his game.... and if you don't think he will then that's OK because obviously that's the lessons you failed at & because of your failure, what you learned is what you believe....

Kevin Durant is 22 and he's a top five player in the league. I agree that Westbrook will get better, but I am not willing to allow that at the expense of the Thunder's immediate success. The entire reason they are digging out of the hole they are in is because of their inefficiency of play, starting at the PG position. He will get better, but he's not staying in OKC. He will be gone in less than five years back to the west coast, mark my words. Yes, he will learn from his failures (and he has many of them), but he will do it at the expense of the Thunder, which is not fair to this program.

Most of the good NBA guards look like they're playing pinball, smallish guys getting banged around in there. Westbrook is big and tough and can take it. One point is, his style of play got the Thunder where it is. He didn't suddenly change. So he had a bad game. Or two. So what. Another point is, the media that has overnight gone from OU expert to NBA expert is a joke on both subjects. Do you ever listen to their picks? Can't pick, can't have credibility.
Cowboy88 (last year)
By the way, tulsandn, that's a nice profile picture. It's always good to see that picture and remember that Bradford got dominated on that play and didn't even get in the endzone.
Cowboy88 (last year)
Picker-

Rajon Rondo obviously doesn't have a problem getting banged up. Chris Paul? Nope. Westbrook looks like a skinny Byron Eaton, forcing his way down the lane and throwing up a prayer.

You're exactly right, "his style of play got the Thunder where it is." Digging out of a hole against the Grizzlies, of all teams. Even if they manage get out of this series alive they don't have a chance against the Mavs. They got lucky they only had to play the Denver No-Melos in the first round. I would say that leading the league and turnovers and one of the worst A:TO ratios of all PGs isn't just one or two bad games. I would call that an underperformed season.

Cowboy 88,
Rondo will be eating clam chowder soon.
Paul is already into the shrimp.
Westbrook is still playing.
Cowboy88 (last year)
Westbrook is still playing because he has the four best support staff to clean up his mistakes.
The Picker (last year)
No chance against the Mavs?

Both teams have a chance against the Mavs.

All the Mavs did was defeat the Puddles.
Cowboy88 (last year)
The Puddles that beat the Thunder twice this year? The Puddles that beat the Thunder in the playoffs last year? Oh yeah, those guys.
But What Do I Know? (last year)
Gretchen, Gretchen, you're getting much more attention than you deserve.

Yeah I bought two Tulsa World subscriptions so I could have two different personas on here. You caught me.

Gretchen at least include your good lookin' blonde photo even tho you're a guy.

So if I'm GW, you must be snoop. Nice try straying away from the topic of this article snoop.
American Psycho (last year)
straying away from the topic of you scoring 40 in 50 minutes? still laughing about that claim. But back to the real topic, you're right, Westbrook is horrible. His team is in the conf semi's and in his 2 yrs in college UCLA went to the final four both years - that's inexcusable. Thunder should cut him now.
