What a Riot

This was the funniest weekend in the history of sports.
There was little Tony Nomo of the Cowboys, darting around before throwing noodle-arm passes to nobody in particular; same fade as last year.
There was the Dallas offensive line jumping again in violation to the rules.
There was the Dallas coach looking lost.
There was Jerry Jones, trying to recall in which decade he had won his last playoff game -- way before the facelift, wasn't it?
There were the zebras in the NFL, making calls that made you wonder if they were simply incompetent, or worse. The calls against San Diego were so terrible, all officials involved should be fired and investigated.
There were the OU basketball women, getting outrun by everybody on the court -- OSU, cheerleaders, fans going to their seats, the officials, name it. Are the OU women similar to the men's football team in that one player, star guard Dales, made the program seem better than it actually was (remember Heupel)?
There is the Kansas basketball team, so good that all you can do is smile at their skillful good fortune.
There is Dallas receiver Owens crying. There's no crying among meatballs.

Oh here we go again!!! The OU football and womens program is over hyped and not as good as everyone thinks. You are nuts if you think Heupel was the key to 2000. Check the defense that was responsible for the OSU/TA&M/KState/ and FSU wins. Offense looked terrible vs OSU/most of A&M and FSU. Without the Defense we don't win at lest two of those games. You are a joke.
How is one team overated that has nearly 80% of its games the last 9 years, played in 3 NC games, and played in 6 conference championship games? In addition, they have finished in the top 10 at least 6 of 8 years.
How is a team over hyped and overated that has won as many conference titles as the woman? How about the Sweet 16's and Final 4's? What about playing for the NC in 2002? How about a coach that has one close to 70% of her after the program was nearly cut less that a 5 years prior to her taking over?
Your point should be that a special player or players can be the boost you need to win it all. However, but not winning it all does not mean you are overhyped and overrated.
Name the teams in football and womens basketball that have won more games and player or won more conference/national championships in the last 10 years.
Pretty exclusive club and both the OU men and OU women would be on both of those.
The facts do not lie and you are a JackA**.

Why is it that we blame Tony Romo for the Cowboy's loss to the Giants? Patrick Crayton, a former Northwestern Oklahoma Ranger could have put the Boys up 24-14 IF he makes a routine across the middle catch in the third quarter. The offensive line was absolutely non- existent, except of course, for the penalties. The Boys peaked way too soon. 1-3 to end the season says it all.
The Chargers win over the Colts was extremely puzzling in the fact that Phillip Rivers is about 50% of what Peyton Manning is under center. The San Diego defense won the game, and unlike Dallas, the Colts offensive line didn't lose it.
Sherry Coale knew coming into this season that OU needed to be able to get up and down the floor quicker than they have in recent seasons. Mississippi showed her and the nation last year what an incredibly slow team in transition the Lady Sooners were. Other teams will expose that little hiccup all conference schedule long.
Finally, I saw two of the NFL's best wide receivers, both wearing sunglasses in postgame interviews this past weekend. One, Randy Moss of the Patriots, was busy talking about how they were just taking it one game at a time, and methodically doing what it takes to get another win. He didn't have a spectacular game, just helped his team win. The other wearer of sunglasses, was commenting on a question that was never asked of him, 'why are you blaming our quarterback?' Now if the roles were reversed, does anyone on this planet or any other, feel that Randy Moss would have been in tears, answering a question that was never asked of him? T.O. needs counseling, BAD, and in a hurry. Get that guy some popcorn, he needs a prop, not a tissue.

If you want to argue that Heupal was a great field general and made our offense much better or that he made Mangino (O-Coordinator at the time) look much better that is fine. However, Heupal was not responsible for the 2000 national championship. Three reasons led to the NC.
*Our team got better as the year went on for the most part
*Our defense was phenominal every game after the Kansas game and scored at key points in the game to change momentum (Nebraska / Texas / Texas A&M)
*The coaches took risks and played to win the game not to loose the game. In addition, we out schemed the other team consistently through out the season
*Luck - Every team needs it to win a NC - See LSU 07 / Florida 06 / Texas 05 / LSU 04
What do you mean seams better than they actually where? Are you arguing that they made up for other glaring weaknesses on their respective teams? If not, when they graduated how does that have anything to do with how good they are or are not now?
You should know that a truly special team always has 1 or 2 true difference makers. So, by your logic, a team without the difference maker who is ranked pretty high and doesn't win it all pretty much sucks, is overhyped and are a buch of underachievers.

Defense wins Championships. Just ask Illinois just how easy it was to score on USC in the latest Rosey Bowl. OU had a great defense for maybe 3 or 4 games this year, the rest of the time, Lord knows where they parked their fat behinds, but it wasn't getting hyped up for games: Colorado, Iowa State, Tex. Tech, W. Virginia. Absolutely need to revise the play-calling for different teams also. Just look at how the Golden Hurricane was (were) flying around nearly every game this including the OU game. OU this year was absolutely a group of very good players who hardly played together well--like a TEAM.

To OSUNDN:
I see you sneaked over here to this little playground to play the bully after I ran you off of WP's previous blog.
Am I going to have to run you off from here, too? or will you just slither away quietly back to your and World Picker's pole barn in Stoolwater.
Either, way, your bully days are numbered.
I know you and T-Bone and the Pukes have waited 17 games for a win against the Sooners, but don't let it go to your pointy little heads. The Heifers still gotta go to Norman and play a game. The hay may be fresher down there.
Ps. Do all Stoolwater heifers sport mohawks? or just the two legged variety?

Epphan: Gold star for writing achievement.
Here's a halfway decent question: Which staff of football assistants is better, OU's or Tulsa's?
Can anyone imagine what OU would look like with a little creativity?
Is the OU assistant group something like an inside club where only the pals can get in?
Nitpicker
I suppose if OU assistants had the same creativity as OSU assistants (both those fired and hired by T-Bone) they would be 7-6.
World Picker, know when it is time for you to return to therapy.?
When Epphan comes up with better zingers than you.
OU's lowest paid assistant makes more $ than you do, World Picker. And you have been at it so long. You should just throw in the towel.

Late post. This just in. Sherry Coale is a Babe. She should get a pass in all situations.
Mr. Picker (with respect): Moving Tulsa's coaches to a superior program does not make that program better. Tulsa is a Great school for Education.
I understand you have to give them print from time to time.
Really isn't much to write about after college football season is there.
Jessica is hotter than a Super Bowl ring.
The look on Jerry's stretched face was very very satisfying.
Redskins will return (maybe).

NITPICKER/NITWITTER:
Yeah I sneaked over here. How in the world did you find me? I'm sorry you feel that I bullied you. I hope I didn't hurt your feelings. I didn't realize you were so sensitive. Did you suffer some kind of mental trauma when you were younger? Are you suffering from PTBS?

WORLDPICKER

To A Jones, OSUNDN, etc.: Nitpicker is addicted to the Picks. It used to be funny. Now it's pretty sad. He's used to exchanging Valentines with OU homers and has never met objective people who know 20 times more about sports than he does. So he is drawn back to this site the way a slow OU cornerback is drawn toward the line of scrimmage on a passing down.
He must think that by hanging around here so much, he won't be such a goober.
Any comment about why OU's three best players bolted?
Nit picker
To World Picker & his lap dogs:
Addiction is a relative term: after all you sad sacks are still sliding your little mouses on your orange pads hoping WP throws you a T-Bone.
So, you are telling me OSUNDN isn't a goober, OSU homer? Yeah, right. Sure thing. For sure. Absolutely. I believe you.
WP, you and your homers are obsessed with OU. Totally obsessed. Scary obsessed. You guys make Monk look laid back.
A.Jones: you are confusing agitation with amusement.
World Picker, I only know 1/20th of what you know about the OU players bolting. Besides, you're the one getting paid (all be it chump change), so you should be the one to comment. Dare I dare you to comment?
World Picker, you should be fired. But then who would be left around here to amuse me. And, who would clean out T-Bone Pickins' stalls.
Nit picker
To OSUNDN:
No, homer, you didn't bully me, but you are obvioulsy trying to hide from me behind World Picker's orange, pleated skirt.
How's the view from back there? If you can't see the field you can always climb up on T-Bone's pedestal, just be careful, don't dislodge Mr. Gundy.
Ah, Mr. OSU homer, you must recall the "Bleak Years" with much glee and fondness. Yes, those were trying times for sure. So many losses. So few bowl games. Remind you of anything?
I actually think the mohawks look good on the heifers.
World Picker should be fired and OSUNDN should be forced to hire him as his personal picker.
WORLDPICKER
Didn't hear a single OU player bolting for the pros say: I'll sure miss my coordinator.
GDJ
Picker,
Did you expect them to say anymore than what they said? They all stated how appreciative they were to have the opportunity to play at OU and how the experience (including coaching) prepared them for the NFL.
I would of expected them to maybe mention their specific position coach above the coordinators. So in the case of Lofton, you may have a point as Venables coaches linebackers. But I am sure you knew that;)
However, one could make the argument that Lofton was "coached up" given the questions about how he would adapt at the next level coming from a smaller school like Kingfisher.
Did McFadden and Jones from Arkansas thank their coordinators? Have any other players leaving early thanked their coordinators?
Why don't you give some examples?
Of course you won't because that would defeat the purpose of your comment (to take the negative side of the OU argument).

Romo's game had nothing to do with the getaway with the babe. The O-line didn't protect him. It's funny how the critics were all over Wade Phillips when he was hired then fell silent when the 'Boys went 13-3. They were nowhere to be found. Even credited Parcells with the success. Only when they failed to win did they re-emerge and begin criticizing again. Picker is right on the offiicials HORRIBLE calling of the SD game. That was horrible!
pete

man I am still amazed that the gooners are still jealous of what OSU has recieved in donations the past 2 years. We got the hind tit for 100 years while the gooners were getting all the support from the oil companies and building their program. I think we did pretty good with the scraps we were allowed to have, More National championships than the gooners, more individual national champions than the gooners and having to play in mediocre stadium. And now we finally get an alum to help the program and with his support. we are also seeing more donors give to educational programs. Guess the gooners are mad that the stepchild is rising up and they are worried about what is about to happen to their dynasty. Oh GDJ don't see the game in gooner town being much different unless your heifers can loose some weight. They are over finished, but that is probably how you like them. They would be graded as prime meat.

Pete,
WOW... What a shock!! A cow molestor using ag references!!! Thanks for prepetuating the stereotype.
Just a quick note. Not to break your heart, but a human can not get a cow pregnant. Quit trying.... It just won't happen.
Sorry Pete. Guess we will need to put you on suicide watch tonight.

JWW: The NFL calls are so horrible, it's like the pinhead announcers have been instructed to keep quiet, so as not to provoke riots.
Makes the NBA officiating by the zebra who bet seem mild by comparison.
Granted, they're getting up there in years; but how can they continually see things that aren't there?
