Wherefore Art Thou Silent Bob?

Random thoughts on Barry Sanders, Kevin Smith and cheaters:
--For a lark, I posted Wednesday on the viewaskew.com message board of filmmaker Kevin Smith (creator of "Clerks" and "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back") to see if he had an opinion on his namesake (UCF running back Kevin Smith) being on the verge of breaking Barry Sanders' single-season NCAA rushing record record.
At the time of this writing, the filmmaker (who sometimes responds to message board posts) was still being Silent Bob on the matter.
You can't blame the guy if he's too busy to worry about something that even Sanders himself likely isn't worried about. And that's not a knock on the filmmaker, who has many fans and minions and I don't want them to mobilize against me.
Actually, I have seen both Kevin Smiths in action. I listened to the filmmaker at Comic-Con 2000 in San Diego and I saw the running back play against the University of Tulsa in Orlando this season. Just an opinion (and critics will disagree), but my favorite Kevin Smith movie is "Mallrats."
--Kevin Smith (the running back) and Sanders may have more in common than a record. They both apparently have anti-mean streaks.
A TU player told one of our Golden Hurricane beat writers that Smith was nice enough to say "thanks" after defenders helped him get back on his feet following tackles. Hopefully, the TU kids were polite enough to spoil a violent game by saying "you're welcome."
--Former NFL head coach Dan Reeves said this about the unbeaten New England Patriots: "Inside the 20, they always seem to know whether you're running or throwing."
Hmmm. Sort of makes you think the Patriots steal signals -- not that anyone would ever accuse them of that.
