Who is Bill Bedenbaugh?

Bedenbaugh is West Virginia’s offensive line coach and, according to SoonerScoop.com, a leading candidate for the vacancy created when Oklahoma assistant James Patton took a job at Indiana.

Bedenbaugh, a native of St. Charles, Ill., was a four-year starting offensive lineman and college teammate of Mountaineers coach Dana Holgorsen at Iowa Wesleyan. He’s played for and coached with Mike Leach. He also was on Mike Stoops’ staff at Arizona for four years.

Bendenbaugh was asked about his style of coaching prior to his first season at West Virginia.

“In your face,” he told the Times West Virginian. “That’s the only way. I’m demanding. I’m tough. I expect a lot.”

Here’s a short bio sketch of Bedenbaugh.

* The 40-year-old has 18 seasons of coaching experience and has been West Virginia’s offensive line coach for the past two seasons;

* He coached for OU defensive coordinator Mike Stoops at Arizona between 2007-10. He was the offensive line coach for all four seasons and added co-offensive coordinator duties to his title in 2010;

* He was named one of the nation’s top 50 recruiters last week by 247 Sports and a top Big 12 recruiter by Rivals.com on Tuesday;

* Bedenbaugh spent the majority of his coaching career on Leach’s staff at Texas Tech. He was a graduate assistant/offensive line coach between 2000-02, handled running backs in 2003-04 and moved to the offensive line in 2005-06;

* He got his coaching start at Panhandle State in 1995, soon after he finished his four-year career at Iowa Wesleyan. He spent one season in Goodwell;

* Bedenbaugh made $250,000 in 2012 and received a 20-percent raise this year. He is scheduled to make $300,000 in 2013. Outgoing offensive line coach James Patton made $265,000 at Oklahoma last season;

* Marydee (Connor) Bedenbaugh, wife of Bill Bedenbaugh, is an Oklahoma State graduate and her parents still live in Tahlequah. They have two children, William and Lacy.

Mr. Bailey: Coachingsearch website has just reported that Stoops just let go D-line Coach, Jackie Shipp, today. It's their top story.
