Who made the highest scoring fantasy football starting lineup for 2012?

Anyone can make the Pro Bowl (see Frank Gore). More important is a look at what would have been the perfect fantasy starting lineup.

Using ESPN standard scoring, here it is:

Tom Brady
Adrian Peterson
Arian Foster
Calvin Johnson
Brandon Marshall
Tony Gonzalez
Stephen Gostkowski
Chicago Bears

Brady is a surprise for me: I thought he was going to drop off a lot my prediction of Brandon Lloyd being a bust (correct), Wes Welker slowing down (incorrect) and the offensive line being very suspect (incorrect). Brady was just 2 points ahead of Drew Brees, who I predicted would have a career year (almost).

Peterson was a second-round pick in some leagues: I've mentioned his freakness a couple of times. Happy to see that something that once ended careers is now a problem you need some weeks to get over.

Foster never blew up. But he kept the touchdowns coming, even in games the Texans were not in. He says he is fine after getting pulled for an irregular heartbeat and is back at practice. I put him as the second overall pick in next year's draft after AD.

Megatron broke a big record. But he couldn't score a touchdown. I saw a lot of red zone targets but a lot of either bad passes or drops. He had a little Madden Curse on his hands.

Marshall made the Dolphins look really bad. The Fins said they would have cut him if they didn't trade him. Then he goes and does what he does with Jay Cutler, go for 100 receptions and plenty of touchdowns.

Gonzo was the tight end deal of the year. Incredible year for someone who was drafted when Troy Aikman was still playing.

Gostkowski met the hype. He entered the year as the highest ranked kicker.

The Bears had as many touchdowns as a solid No. 2 fantasy running back. And that was with their future Hall of Fame linebacker not on the field most of the time.

If Matt Doyle had his football fantasy, it would be to construct a team reminiscent of the 1985 Chicago Bears. Instead, these days he tries to avoid picking any Chicago Bears for his fantasy teams.

James Royal is the Atlanta Braves of fantasy football -- lots of regular-season success with lots of postseason heartache, like the year he lost the championship because Terrell Owens and Willis McGahee were both out with injuries. His proudest free-agent acquisition was grabbing Kurt Warner when he was still Kurt Warner, the former AFL quarterback who used to sack groceries.

Jason Collington's first fantasy football draft pick was Eric Dickerson, back when he was a Colt. He's lost a lot more than he's won, but in the last 10 years he's taken home five fantasy championships. He doesn't pick a kicker until the last round. Defense the round before that.

Matt Clayton has been in the same fantasy football league for 11 years. He’s won two championships and finished eighth quite a few times. He’s a Dallas Cowboys apologist, his favorite football player ever is Steve Atwater from the Denver Broncos and he named his dog Brady, because of his long beautiful hair and how much he likes new shoes.
