Wing Gone, So TU Has Prayer?

Tulsa has never beaten Houston in football since joining Conference USA, but a preseason NFL game gave a hint that the Golden Hurricane might get past the Cougars this season.
The hint? Tulsa doesn't have to contend with Kevin Kolb anymore.
Kolb, who quarterbacked Houston to victories over TU the last two seasons, came off the Philadelphia Eagles' bench to hit 26-of-37 passes for 260 yards and a touchdown in a preseason loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Granted, the rookie was playing against back-ups, but he very much looked like he belonged on an NFL roster (my opinion, he looked better than starter Donovan McNabb) and the Eagles felt comfortable enough with Kolb's development that they traded veteran backup Kelly Holcomb almost immediately after the game.
Houston won a Conference USA championship last season and the Cougars are picked to win the West Division this season. Houston has enough athletes (check out Anthony Alridge, the Human First Down) to be a problem for any opponent, but Tulsa's chances of beating the Cougars later this season certainly seem more credible now that Kolb is playing for pay.
