Adrian Peterson might be the best running back in the land, but he was not among three finalists for the Doak Walker Award.
I've got no problem with that. I think Peterson is a super back and, if healthy, he would be in the running (no pun intended) for the Doak Walker Award and the Heisman Trophy. But Peterson is not healthy and folks on the Doak Walker Award selection committee probably didn't feel like they could justify voting for a fellow who has played basically half a season. (My top two candidates are Arkansas' Darren McFadden and West Virginia's Steve Slaton.)
It will be interesting to see if Peterson gets any Heisman votes, but I think you shortchange everyone else in college football if you give awards to guys who play half a year. Do you think Donovan McNabb, out for the remainder of the season, has any chance of being the NFL's MVP?
