You Never Know about Recruiting

Over the past 30 years college football recruiting went from a little noticed date on the calendar to a huge day for college football fans.
There are now literally dozens of recruiting-based web sites and newsletters out there proclaiming to know more than anyone about all of the recruits.
Here's the truth. You never know what dirves an 18-year-old to make a decision, change a decision or do something that makes no sense.
All you need to know is that the athlete is 18 and believes he is doing what is best for himself.
Of course, that's not good enough for some folks. Football recruits sometimes receive tons of hate mail and other protests from fans that feel he made the wrong choice.
Perhaps he did make the wrong choice, for one reason or another, but that shouldn't be the concern of otherwise normal adults.
Football recruiting is an inexact science to say the least.
The greatest prospects sometimes turn out to be great - Adrian Peterson comes to mind.
Sometimes guys you never hear about in recruiting, like Barry Sanders, turn out to be among the greastest players in the history of the sport.
For as many success stories we hear about, there are just as many flops.
He won and who didn't on recruiting day on Wednesday won't really be known until 2011.
That's when you can put a realistic grade on a recruiting class.
