You People Owe Me AGAIN
Published: 1/9/2009 12:09 PM

Here's the way football in this state works every stinking year.

You get all these cuddle-up, kissy-face circus clown- reject media types, all these groupies, all these homers, all these excuse-making hindsight-seeing baloney spreaders, panting around like lap dogs saying oh, they're great, oh, he's the coach of the century, oh, he's an NFL cinch, aren't they all the greatest.

And every stinking year, here we come along and say it's all bull.

Our pick missed the biggest football game ever played by one point.

Homers can't be pickers.

Malarkey you hear on radio wrecks like the Sports Animal cheerleading clinic operating out of Oklahoma City is comical. One show is called the Total Dominance Hour. What Moe, Curly and Larry dominate are winos and hillbillies.

Why did OU lose to Florida?

Two reasons.

You can't pick unless you know what you just saw.

Why does OU lose all the big bowls?; why did Oregon roll Oklahoma State?; why did Mississippi ruin Tech?; why was Texas all out against an Ohio State quarterback who couldn't hit the ground?; why was Missouri extended by a pretty terrible Northwestern team?

The Big 12 is somewhat overrated on a yearly basis.

It's obvious to anybody with a lick of sense that the SEC is far superior.

Why else did OU lose to Florida?

Bradford played great. The line blocked great. The defense played great. Even Venables coached great. Wilson coached fair. The kick coverage teams played great. The punter punted great. The runners ran great.
Get a field goal kicker, all right?

So what happened?

The receivers came up itsy-bitsy tiny.

The tight end doesn't get out of bounds. Perfect passes are juggled. The most perfect pass of the game is missed.

If you can't catch it, don't let the other team have it.

Make a play, win the game.

One more thing. If we say somebody in the media is a pinhead, write it down.

Mr. Picker, you are absolutely correct. Congrats on "nailing" the spread. With talent like you continue to display, think of the career you could have on Wall Street. . . or Vegas. Perhaps if OU were to raise the salary level for its head FB Coach they could get someone who wins in January.

Picker wins all the points! Totally awesome!

"what Moe,Curley, and Larry Dominate are winos and hillbillies." LOL!.....so true!I do have to give props to Traber though. He's about the only one who isn't an OU homer.

Where are all the OU homers that were running their mouth????

Picker,

It is with great humility, and a bit of choking on crow that I post this comment.

You were right, I am not worthy.

However you analysis of the game leaves a little to be desired.

OU got beat because of VENABLES inability to game plan a scheme to stop the Option/Shovel Pass play that Fla. ran 7 times and averaged 14 yards per play on. You had a month to prepare Brent and they ran this all season.

Second, Wilson should have SLOWED down in the red zone. You aren't fooling anyone down there on fourth and 1 by running out of jumbo between the tackles.

Three, Sam is NOT ready for the NFL. Had he been ready, he would have lead them late in the game to a score, not a four and out.

Other than that, you were right. But admit it Picker, if someone had told you that OU holds Fla. to 24 points, you would have taken OU.

It really does look like the SEC on whole puts its best athletes in the defensive secondary.

Taking one away is as important, if not more important, than catching one.

OU's D did as well as it could.

Catch the stupid football. And if you can't, don't let them catch it.

Nit Picker, where you at, Dog!

The OU fans must be composing their notes of congratulations on the BCS pick that was repeatedly assailed.

Until the game started.

Congratulations to the Gators !!!!!!
They were the better team last night.
All the rest of this conversation is wasted time.
Looking forward to next fall. Will be a strange season for OU. Outstanding Defense and can't buy a point. Probably about 9-4.
Maybe the lesser schools in the state will do okay.
Go Cal !!!!!

The "D" did their job far above what we all thought. It seemed play calling
took longer except for the one drive. We ran almost 20 less plays than our average. red zone play calling stupid after you get stuffed twice.
Not that this changes anything but Wilson needs to fall on sword for this game.
Picker, great call unfortunately.

Mr. Picker, while you correctly picked the winner of the OU-Florida game, you must recognize that neither is truly the national champion as Utah was the only undefeated team. We'll await your further picks for the god-awful NFL games over the next few weeks.

Don't be fooled!

The most accurate thing about the Picker is his picture - the one with the big mouth. Accountability can be tough, though.....

From last week's picks alone, he missed the South Carolina game, the Clemson game, the Alabama game, and the Ohio State game. Let me say that again - the OHIO STATE game! He picked Ohio State to win a bowl game! These are not against the spread - these are simply straight up winners.

To show that his ineptitude is not limited to the college game, Mr. P also picked the following professional winners: Indianapolis, Miami, and Minnesota. Wow, nothing like a 25% hit rate!

This wasn't just the random bad week, he also picked the following winners early in the bowl season: Oklahoma State, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Nevada. Not to mention Dallas over Philadelphia and the NYJets over Miami.

Hitting a correct pick every now and again is not a feat worth crowing about - even blind dogs will find a bone once in a while.

Such ineptitude has not received such self-adulation since the Clintons left the presidency.

Before you go tooting your own horn, posturing, beating your chest, proclaiming greatness, you might put an addendum to your mishmash, here:

Said Wilson, "We saw the pressure coming. We knew it was two-deep (coverage with two deep safeties). We can play better, we can make a play or two, I guess, but there's some calls I wish I had back."

Try several coach, not just some. Several. This one is all, all on your shoulders buddy. Have a nice off-season.

Marathonman--that 25% rate is something you will never hear about.

LOL! Brag on the 25%, but never mention the 75% failure rate.

The OU - Florida pick was the biggest pick in this state this year. To get it so close to right after drawing so much attention to how big a pick it was, which the Picker did ... you really have to give the man credit. This was his most important pick by far and he nailed it. Also, if memory serves, he also picked Texas over OU when OU was favored. Pretty good record in such high profile games. I don't always agree with his picks on games of interest to me and sometimes the Picker is just wrong. But, the man has a clue and deserves that people wanting to know pay attention

The "picker" missed this pick, perfectly. No way did he think the game would play out like it did. He was VERY fortunate that the spread came out so close to his prediction. Of course, it doesn't take a genious to pick a spread of 11 in a game where the Vegas spread was UF -6. Anyone who thinks the Sooners had no chance in this game doesn't understand the game of football. Even with the red zone failures in the first half OU had a real chance to win the game. Iggy had the ball in both hands inside the 25 midway through the 4th qtr qith OU down by 4. It is not a stretch to imagine the Sooners scoring to take the lead. . . Just sayin'
