In lieu of posting a new blog, I am submitting an e-mail I received from a former Kansas State baseball player who once was teammates with Earl Woods, father of Tiger Woods:

Your article about Earl and his Kansas State baseball was sent to me by a niece who lives in Oklahoma.
I found the article very interesting as I too was a member of the 1953 Kansas State baseball team.
I also have memories of a trip we took over the Easter holidays to Arkansas and I believe Tennessee. We stayed on the campuses as there were no hotel/motels that would allow a black person to stay.
My memories of Earl pretty well coincide with those of the persons you mentioned in the article. I did know Earl quite well and also roomed with him on more than one occasion.
He was quiet, unassuming and all of us got along very well. I do not believe there was ever an incident (racial) with any one on the team.
For verification, a team picture of the 1953 team can be found in the 1954 Royal Purple, pg. 319. I'm the handsome one sitting to the left of Earl, middle row!

Tulsa World sports writer Jimmie Tramel is a former class president at Locust Grove High School. He graduated magna cum laude from Northeastern State University with a journalism degree and, while attending college, was sports editor of the Pryor Daily Times. He joined the Tulsa World on Oct. 17, 1989, the same day an earthquake struck the World Series. He is the OSU basketball beat writer and a columnist and feature writer during football season. In 2007, he wrote a book about Oklahoma State football with former Cowboy coach Pat Jones.
