Two separate accounting conferences will take place this week at the Crowne Plaza Hotel downtown.

The third annual Oil and Gas Accounting Conference is scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday. That will be followed Thursday by the seventh annual Accounting and Financial Reporting Conference, which takes place from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Both conferences are presented by the School of Accounting at the William S. Spears School of Business at Oklahoma State University.

Accountants who attend both conferences can earn 12 credit hours of continuing professional education, including three hours of ethics.

Among those speaking at Wednesday's conference will be Thomas M. Blewitt, deputy regional controller -- E&P North America with BP America in Houston; and Jeff B. Alcott, consultant and past president of COPAS, in Mandeville, La.

At Thursday's conference, Samuel K. Cotterell, chairman of the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy, will present an address titled "Regulatory Issues in Accounting." He also is vice president and controller of Boise Cascade LLC.

Gregory Scates, associate chief auditor of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, will provide an update on PCAOB, which is the federal watchdog group for the accounting industry.

Other speakers scheduled Thursday include G. Michael Crooch, a member of the Financial Accounting Standards Board; Zoe-Vonna Palmrose, deputy chief accountant for professional practice with the Securities and Exchange Commission; Walter "Walt" Pavlo, founder and president of Etika LLC; and Grace L. Hinchman, senior vice president of Financial Executives International.

A few openings are still available for the conferences, organizers said.

Phone registration is available at (866) 678-3933.
