Correction
This story incorrectly reported when Conoco Inc. moved its headquarters to Houston. The company was based in Houston for years before its merger with Phillips Petroleum Co. to form ConocoPhillips in 2002.

All 700 office worker positions in Ponca City are being considered for consolidation or relocation.

ConocoPhillips hopes to decide by January how many nonrefinery jobs it might consolidate or relocate from Ponca City, a company spokeswoman said Friday.

The Houston-based oil giant is reviewing all of its 700 positions in Ponca City, Tracy Harlow said in a telephone interview. Another 750 people are employed in refinery operations there but will not be affected by the review.

"Consolidation and relocation are options we're looking at," Harlow said. "Any and all options are still on the board right now."

Most of ConocoPhillips' nonrefinery jobs in Ponca City are focused in the credit card, information technology, facilities and other support operations, she noted. A steering committee, including ConocoPhillips managers, is looking at options.

The review started this month and has not narrowed into specifics so far, Harlow said.

"We really don't have any decisions at this point," she said. "ConocoPhillips is always looking for opportunities to be more efficient and effective in all of our operations. This is part of an ongoing effort."

Conoco Inc.'s ties
to Ponca City date back to the early part of the 20th century. In 2002, the company moved its headquarters to Houston and merged with Bartlesville-based Phillips Petroleum Co. to form one of the nation's largest integrated oil companies.

The ConocoPhillips refinery reportedly processes about 187,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

The facility refines oil into gasoline, diesel, jet fuel and other products.
