Thirst for production

Pryor's Gatorade production plant will lay off another 87 employees as demand for the sports beverage declines in a slumping economy.

The move comes less than six weeks after the company laid off 22 salaried employees at the plant. The plant has cut 109 employees during the last two months and now has about 135 workers.

Employees that are being laid off will get two months of full pay and six months of benefits coverage, said plant manager Chris Weber.

The $180 million PepsiCo-QTG plant, which opened in March, makes Gatorade and Propel Fitness Water drinks - brands that are subsidiaries of PepsiCo Inc., one of the world's largest beverage producers.
