Leader: Mercury Marine union researching a second vote before Stillwater move
By Associated Press

FOND DU LAC, Wis. - The union at Mercury Marine that rejected some wage and benefit concessions is researching whether a second vote is possible.
Dan Longsine is the lead negotiator for the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Local 1947. He said Wednesday he was unsure whether a second vote could be called without any changes in the deal.
But he says the boat engine maker has offered to provide some written clarifications regarding some of wording in the contract.
Longsine says more than 70 percent of those voting Sunday rejected concessions that Mercury Marine says it needs or many of the 850 manufacturing jobs will be moved to a nonunion plant in Stillwater, Okla.
Longsine says he knows some members are having second thoughts and many expected a second vote.

Don't move to Stillwater, yet. It's obvious the corporate folks are using Oklahoma's cheap wages and low taxes to beat down the cheeseheads.

Sounds like they are really standing by their principals. That is, the principal of taking money from the Union Members.

The union expected a 2nd vote? Why? Didn't they take the company's threat to move serious? These greedy clowns deserve to be unemployed!

This would be having your bluff called in a game of poker.. I hope the company does move this to Stillwater.

Yeah! We are now able to compeat with China, Mexico, Viet Nam, and India for jobs. Keep pushing and we may end up at the bottom. Gratz to all involved.

Might be ok if ALL the workers had USA birth certificates, valid social security numbers, drivers licenses with auto insurance, and could speak and understand the American language.

Wow... So now -
1. You have to be a natural born citizen to work here.
2. You have to have a driver's license. (I assume you can skip the auto insurance if you don't own a car, but then you probably aren't worthy of working here either)
3. You have to speak American. Which "American" language are you referring to? English (USA, Canada), French (Canada), Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish (many countries in "America")?
See, this is why we need a Constitutional amendment saying we all have to speak "American" in "America."

They are slowly moving Southwest. There once was a thriving OMC plant in Galesburg, IL. We bought several of the engine racks and transported them down to Oklahoma about 10 years ago and use them as pipe racks for oilfield pipe and sucker rod. We mainly build steel buildings with it. Every time we go back to Galesburg I cant quite get the idea of that large warehouse once being filled with employees making boat motors. Now its full of surplus property from all over the U.S.A.
