Rig power unit unveiled

OKLAHOMA CITY — The competition in equipment to power drilling rigs is heating up.

Oklahoma City-based United Engines LLC last week unveiled a new electric drilling package, an entry into an oil and gas market dominated by industry leader Caterpillar Inc.

"Now there's an alternative," said Bill Moore, president of United Engines.

His company will sell the G73 Electric Drilling Package, MTU Detroit Diesel's first engine-generator combination made for the oil and gas industry.
