OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma has one of the most progressive tax incentive programs to entice people to buy electric cars, according to the leader of a company that plans to build plug-in vehicles in the state.

CEO Mike McQuary of Wheego Electric Cars Inc. showed off his company's Wheego Whip on Tuesday outside the state Capitol. The cars, which are all-electric, will be sold exclusively by an AMP Control Inc. dealership in Piedmont, Canadian County, about 40 miles northwest of Oklahoma City.

Atlanta-based Wheego plans to build an assembly plant in Oklahoma, but a final site has not been selected, McQuary said. The facility would be located either in Piedmont or Kingfisher, where AMP Control CEO Max Heckl owns land, McQuary said.

The site for the plant, which could create 30 to 50 jobs, will be chosen by year's end, said Ryan Deatherage, president of AMP Control.

I'd be more tempted to buy the Tesla S at $49,900 that can go 300 miles on a 45 minute charge and get to 60 mph in under 6 seconds. There is a $7000 federal tax credit for buying one.

This looks like a suitable replacement for the Ford Pinto, which was named the Molotov Cocktail.
