Ford F-150 top choice
Chevy Silverado trucks were the second most popular purchase by Oklahoma residents.

Oklahomans stayed fairly loyal to their old car brands when they took advantage of the Cash for Clunkers rebate program this summer.

Mirroring national rebate data, the most common switch in Oklahoma was an old Ford F-150 pickup for a new one. That was followed by people trading in old Chevy or GMC pickups for new Chevrolet Silverado trucks.

Buyers across the state chose Chevrolet, Ford and Toyota vehicles in roughly half the new purchases, according to an analysis of federal rebate data. Vehicles from the Big Three — Ford Motor Co., General Motors Co. and Chrysler Group LLC — were among the most traded-in.

Tulsa-area dealers sold about 2,100 new vehicles under the program, including 208 by Jim Norton Toyota, the highest seller in the area.

I sure did enjoy buying those trucks for someone else. What a great deal for the American taxpayer. Going to be interesting around tax time when the real cost becomes apparent.

This is amazingly stupid at it's ugly best. First, it was stated that the new vehicles had to meet a certain MPG guideline to qualify. If I remember correctly I think it was 20 MPG. Then, it was stated in the guidelines that all "clunkers" were to be destroyed because the whole idea of the "cash for clunkers" program was that we were getting gas guzzlers off the road. These trucks that were bought with my tax money get bad gas milage. I watch all these car ads on tv (there's one every 2.5 minutes) and they say "cash for clunkers was very successfull,so we have a lot of trade ins to sell." These "trade ins" were also supposed to meet the guidelines of bad gas milage. Thats the ones that were supposed to be taken off the roads so that we use less gas. What a bunch of lies. The american government at it's best.

Who ever makes those commercials is lying to you. I don't think it is the government.

Well apparently there is one intelligent former Ford owner.

Fix the bumper, and that "clunker" looks like a better car than my daily driver.

Why am I paying increased taxes for people to trade in cars better than mine for cars even better than the ones they have??

I traded in a F-150 for a Fusion Hybrid. Best decision I've made in a long time. 43 mpg in a car that big is impressive.

Cash for Clunkers....

Why not? It's about time we started spending some of our money on US(!) for a change.

This should have never occurred. Nowhere in the Constitution does it state the government can give away my money like this. It is time to vote all who voted for this bill and any others out of their job.

You know who really will benefit from Cash for clunkers? Repo companies.

I don't know a single person who was driving a vehicle worth less than $4,500 who could suddenly afford a $25,000 vehicle. I'd be very curious to see how many idiots are struggling to make that $500 (or more) monthly payment...bet they wish they had their "clunker" back.

Are Mr. Obama and Congress prepared to bailout all the upcoming default auto loans? They better be.

I will drive my F-150 til the wheels fall off... I get super gas mileage, an have almost 140k miles on it....best yet.. its paid for. Why trade that in on 350 -400 dollar payments..

Until I drove a F-150, a Russian built jeep was the worst car I had ever driven. I will never understand why anyone would subject themselves to such an unappealing vehicle.

If you shop around and wait until the end of the year to buy, you can get a really good deal. We bought a brand new F-150 at the end of the year in 07. It was the last one on the lot. Let's just say, they pretty much gave it to us. We have already paid it off. It is very basic. 5 speed stick shift, no leather, no bells and whistle's but it is a GREAT truck!!

Ford is still Ford Motors. Chevrolet is now Government Motors. I drive a Tacoma, but I would be proud to buy a Ford truck because they stand alone and didn't require the handouts like GM and Dodge.

Few Clothes, I agree with you on buying a Ford truck rather than buying one from one of the government bailout auto companies. I read that in order to help re-structure, Ford mortgaged it's blue emblem. Now Ford is turning a profit.
