13-year-old wins EMSA Everyday Hero award for bravery on the highway

As he traveled down U.S. 75 sitting in the passenger seat of his dad’s truck, 13-year-old Wesley Spohn had only a few moments to throw together everything he’d ever learned about driving — and stopping — a vehicle.

LEON CURLEE

Leon Curlee Leon Curlee passed away on January 28, 2016 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. He was 73 years of age. Leon was born in Claremore, Oklahoma on January 21, 1943 the son of Bernard and Margaret (Cox) Curlee. Leon was reared and educated in Coweta where he attended elementary and where he graduated from Coweta High School in 1961. Leon proudly served in the United States Navy before going on to continue his education at Northeastern State University where he earned a bachelor's degree in Mathematics Education in 1971. On August 14, 1976 Leon married Miss Jo Lynn Lambert in a Broken Arrow wedding ceremony. Leon was a wonderful husband and father, a good person and a hard worker with a very strong faith in God. Leon worked as a technical specialist for American Airlines and later retired from the Sabre Corporation. Leon filled his life with the things he loved most; spending time with family, golfing, fishing, catching an OU football game or a NY Yankees baseball game. Leon is survived by, wife, Jo Curlee, Broken Arrow, OK; children, Heather Ashby and Zakkory Sanders, Claremore, OK, David Curlee and wife Mallory, Glenpool, OK, Matthew Curlee, Broken Arrow, OK; grandsons, Donovan and Duncan, granddaughter, Eleanor, on the way; brothers, Errol Curlee and wife Wannie, Coweta, OK , and Mike Curlee, Coweta, OK; and nieces and nephews. Leon was preceded in death by his parents.
