Extension Educators from Oklahoma Cooperative Extension celebrate Family & Consumer Sciences Day

December 3, 2015 marks the second annual Family & Consumer Sciences Day—the national celebration that educates families about the importance of preparing healthy meals and “dining in” together. Why family dinners? Only one third of U.S. families eat dinner together most nights. Sitting down at the table together is still one of the best ways for families to grow and stay connected. The family dinner should be a relaxing, pleasurable occasion, involving everyone. Research indicates that family meals together can help youth avoid risky behaviors. Family dinners don’t have to be in the evening. Instead choose lunch or breakfast time if this is more convenient, especially on week-ends.
