Delaware County Lawsuit

Overview: On Nov. 2, 2011, Delaware County Commissioners voted unanimously to settle a federal lawsuit against the sheriff for $13.5 million.

The suit was filed by former female jail inmates who accused the sheriff of covering for jailers who allegedly raped and sexually assaulted them.

Blackfox resigned two days after the lawsuit settlement was announced. He has maintained that he had no knowledge of any sexual misconduct by his staff, but the lawsuit alleges he knew of the abuse and refused to take action.

This page provides continuing coverage of the lawsuit and the settlement.
