Overview: Your in-depth resource for coverage of the Tulsa 2013 elections.

Here's how it works: Under the city's new nonpartisan election system, since no candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote, Dewey Bartlett and Kathy Taylor will advance to the general election in November.

HISTORY LESSON
The last time a sitting mayor faced a former mayor in a race for the city's top elected office was in 1992, when acting Mayor Susan Savage defeated 53 candidates, including former Mayor Dick Crawford.

In 1968, Mayor Jim Hewgley Jr. defeated former Mayor Jim Maxwell. Two years earlier Hewgley unseated Maxwell, who had served as mayor for eight years.
CITY COUNCIL ELECTIONS
Three of the nine council districts will be up for election in 2013 - Districts 2, 5 and 8. Candidates in those races will vie for one-year terms. District 1, 4 and 7 had elections in 2012. In 2014, all nine council districts will be back on schedule to be up for two-year terms at the same time. This brief staggering process was necessary due to previous voter-approved charter amendments that were further changed by other amendments.
