13 killed in Washington shooting rampage

A defense contractor employee went on a shooting rampage Monday inside a building at the heavily secured Washington Navy Yard, spraying bullets in the hallways and firing from a balcony onto office workers in an atrium below, authorities and witnesses said. Thirteen people were killed, including the gunman.

BNSF to invest $125 million in state projects

BNSF Railway Co. announced Monday it is spending $125 million to expand and improve its system in Oklahoma. Projects will include a new bypass connection at the Cherokee rail yard in west Tulsa and extending a siding area on the carrier's tracks near Mannford.

Glenpool

Overview: Glenpool is a suburb about 15 miles south of downtown Tulsa that credits itself with making Tulsa the "Oil Capital of the World."

In 1905, wildcatters hit a gusher on farmland owned by Ida E. Glenn, a Creek Indian. The "Glenn Pool" attracted a variety of people, but it was not until the 1970s and 1980s that it was considered a bedroom community of Tulsa.

A new development anchored by a Walmart SuperCenter, which has spurred retail and restaurant growth as well as a new City Hall and Conference Center, is part of an effort to reinvent itself as a full-service community.

The city's 2012 population was 11,411, a 40.5-percent increase since the 2000 census.
