About this project: This is the home to continuing coverage about accessing open records in Oklahoma.

During the summer of 2012, the Tulsa World’s summer news interns conducted an Open Records Act survey of 16 cities and eight counties in northeastern Oklahoma. Three Oklahoma counties and the city of Tulsa either failed to comply with open records requests or took more than a month to provide records.

Oklahoma recently received an “F” from the State Integrity Investigation, which aimed to grade each state’s open government traits, according to the survey’s website. The national study by the Center for Public Integrity docked Oklahoma points due to a lack of enforcement. The state ranked 33rd in the country. See the complete report.
