Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy paused and then had an interesting response for a Sports Illustrated reporter who asked a question during the Cotton Bowl press conference after Friday night’s game.

Gundy heard the question and asked: “Where are you from?”

The reporter, Martin Rickman, replied: “I’m from Sports Illustrated, sir.”

The Oklahoma State coach hesitated and said: “Sweet. That’s awesome.”

Gundy paused as media chuckled, seemingly knowing what was coming next.

“Make sure you document this so you have all your research and your background,” Gundy said.

Sports Illustrated ran a series of September articles reporting claims of former players about illegal payments, drug use within the program and hostesses that provided sex to recruits.

The articles were written by George Dohrmann and reported by Thayer Evans.

Oklahoma State lost 41-31 to Missouri in the Cotton Bowl, and Rickman’s question was about whether OSU prepared for the Tigers’ backup quarterback in addition to their starter.

“We were prepared for both quarterbacks,” Gundy answered.

After the exchange, Gundy said he thought he was making a joke with the Sports Illustrated reporter.

No problem Chris and Randy, amusing though it may be, I remain a 45 year faithful OU fan and still can pull for OSU too (until they play each other, then it's always OU!)

Gundy is cool and so is OSU. Most of us OU fans follow them as well. I was very disappointed with the outcome of the Cotton Bowl. However, didn't seem that OSU or Missouri were overly motivated in that game. I thought OSU would pull it out, but.... I did think Gundy's reaction to the SI reporter was great, way to go Coach.

Chris, with all due respect, his last name is spelled, Gundy. Any other spelling as you suggest, is still disrespectful and incorrect. I know how to read, and spelling is one of my better attributes. And I never attack, I wait for the other to do so, and make the first mistake.

Randy lol They prefer to be humiliated by OU in the confines of their own house. You won't find many going to Norman for THAT nightmare.

Randy.......you didn't by any chance go to Rogers HS did you?

Dave.......so wrong So wrong Look again nimrod. I put a capital N to spell his name correctly rather than the M and B others had put to call him GUMBY. Before you attack.............make sure you're ready. I am ! I was emphasizing the correct spelling of his name out of respect. Before you open your mouth, you should learn to read.!

lol ......... all I said was he's soooo cool, and out come the classless aggies. I know. They mirror their "coach." 3 out of the last 4 years my family has had to come through hundreds of carhardt overall wearing, tobacco chewing creeps with snide remarks being made towards my gorgeous daughter. He's a dork and the fans are losers. I would brag about how the visiting fans are treated in Norman, but the aggies are too scared to show up.

Tony, you'll have to excuse the idiotic comments made and the copy cat name callers. They don't have the intelligence or even the common sense to make up their own names, they have to use the other idiots information. None, would even qualify for being a waterboy on the team, but to hear them talk, they are regular professional coaches. NOT!!!

Obviously Dana doesn't know the difference between being a coach and being a player. Gundy wasn't the QB or the defense or offensive line out on the field. Face it, the players got beat. Sad, but true. Of course, if you think you could do better, you could always apply. Would love to hear what your resume' would say.

Sorry Larry Smith, but you just made yourself look worse. Not for sure if you're aware of it or not, but it is Gundy, not Gumby as you would like to assume. If your going to name call, at least think of one yourself and try not to be a copy cat with an idiotic statement to make. You just made Oklahoma (the state) not the team look bad.

Chris, you stooped to those levels when you refused to spell Coach Gundy's name correctly. And the OSU fans wonder why OU fans act as such. You answered it perfectly.

I'm a huge OU fan and can just barely tolerate OSU . BUT......Anyone who can't see and appreciate the job GuNdy has done is blind or simply doesn't know football history. What he did with the SI reporter was deserved and done with perfect timing.
Calling GuNdy a dork is uncalled for. We have a GuNdy at OU also and he does a super job as well. The fact that OU has owned OSU since the beginning and still does is simply a fact. The OSU fans are the ones that lack class and need to learn how to appreciate teams visiting their "house". They don't however, and it's been seen as long as I've been following OU. (1971) Let's not lower ourselves to the pit of the OSU fans by trying to trash a man who has led his team to new heights and respect. Let's just continue whipping them and take it all in stride with dignity.

I'm an OU fan...I don't think Gundy is a dork. He is a good coach....has done well...should've had his team playing for the NC 2 years ago, but everybody had a man-crush on the SEC and couldn't get over themselves or their self-love-fest. No way Alabama should have played that year since they didn't even play for their conference championship, should've been OSU-LSU....but voters couldn't set aside the "eye test" bias.

I thought at the beginning of the season, when the SI article came out and then all the alum who supposedly gave them info said that this was all fabricated or misquoted, I believed that OSU would come out fine. I think Gundy's response to the reporter was great....he owes SI NOTHING!

For all you lame-brain OU fans, there is room in the state for TWO good and classy programs!

I like Gundy's answer. SI tried to make okla state look bad. I would not have been as nice if I were in his place.

Wouldn't say he was out coached, his O-line was outplayed by Mizzou's D-line. Up until that fumble by Chelf OSU was either going to get the go ahead score or at least tie it with a field goal. Chelf was pressed by the D-line all night and sacked several times. You can't let your QB hit the ground too many times or you will lose.
