A forum for Democratic state party candidates is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday at Rudisill Regional Library, 1520 N. Hartford Ave.

The event is sponsored by Democracy for America.

Among those expected to attend are state party chairman candidates Ben Odom of Norman and Ivan Holmes of Oklahoma City, and treasurer candidate Linda Gray Murphy of Oklahoma City.

Other invitees include vice chairwoman candidates Anastasia Pittman, Kitti Asberry and Debbie Hogue-Downing, all of Oklahoma City; secretary candidate Walter Jenny Jr. of Edmond; and treasurer candidate Jana Harkins of Oklahoma City.

State party officials will be elected at the state convention May 19 in Oklahoma City.

Inhofe picketed: About a dozen pickets braved the weather to march outside the Tulsa office of U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe on Wednesday. The group was one of more than 300 nationwide protesting President Bush's veto of a funding bill that included a deadline for withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq.

Earlier that day, six anti-war activists conveyed their objections to the war and Inhofe's support of it to members of the senator's staff.

Inhofe, who as 1st District congressman in the early 1990s voted several times to cut off funding for U.S. military action in Somalia, has steadfastly opposed cuts in Iraq.

Assessor at Republican Women's Club: County Assessor Ken Yazel will be the speaker for Tuesday's Tulsa County Republican Women's Club luncheon.

The event will be at the Radisson Hotel, 10918 E. 41st St.

Those wanting to attend are encouraged to contact Charlotte Harer at (918) 664-7596 or charlottsweb@att.net in advance.

1st District officials: Melani Hamilton, Greg Bledsoe and Rae Weese were elected 1st Congressional District Democratic chairwoman, vice chairman and secretary at the district convention April 28 in Tulsa. The convention included delegates from Tulsa, Wagoner, Washington and Rogers counties.

Democratic scholarship: The Oklahoma Democratic Party is offering a $1,500 summer fellowship for law school students. The job involves working working with state and national party officials on a document called the "Election Protection Plan and Manual."

Contact Courtney Ruark at (405) 427-3366 or cruark@okdemocrats.org for information.

State Party hacks to speak? No, I rather go to yet another Mayoral debate or maybe watch the paint DRY.
