Inhofe plane fired on in Iraq
WASHINGTON -- A plane carrying U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe was fired upon Thursday as it left Bahgdad airport, according to an aide to the Oklahoma Republican.
Elizabeth French said several shots, including rocket-propelled grenade rounds, were fired at the plane, which also had U.S. Sens. Mel Martinez and Richard Shelby of Ala. and U.S. Rep. Bud Cramer of Alabama on board.
French said the plane was not hit.
She said the plane's crew has been credited for taking a number of measures to avoid being hit, including discharging protective flares.
A veteran member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Inhofe is visiting the war zone as part of a congressional delegation.

These numerous congressional delegations to Iraq are a waste of money, and a danger to everyone involved. They aren't going to find out anything the military doesn't want them to find out. They can't roam around and find out for themselves. Dam waste.

And they did all this at the taxpayers expense. I agree, what a waste!

Yes!! the war is a DANGER to everyone involved especially all the kids in the Military ---
And yes - It is a WASTE -- All of our tax dollars going to Bush and Cheney's war contracting buddies!
I wouldn't shed one tear for this idiot...since he so strongly supports an endless war and has no problem sending our kids off to die....

things going well there jim? are you now going to come back and feed us the line of BS that says "the surge is working"?
i would never wish anyone dead. after all, i am a member of the party of values, of life, of effective government. you know, a democrat.
but it would be incredibly ironic if jim inhofe, an iraq war booster from the beginning, ended up shot down by the insurgency he helped create.

I suppose you are supposed to let dictators invade our allies, harbor terrorists and wait for another terrorist attack to hit us. Let's see, how many terrorist attacks have there been since 9/11/2001?

Comments like these show what kind of people you are. You are no better than the insurgents.

Easy solution here. Pull our men out of that nasty sweat hole and drop bombs on it for about 21 or so days. Mostly drop on insurgent occupied territories. A few innocents will be lost, but hey, they are being lost now. Then and only then go in and ask if they are ready to listen now. If not...leave it alone and bring the military home to stay and spend our tax dollars on schooling, secure borders, etc.

I was unaware of the fact that our fine Sen. had pressing Oklahoma business that requires him to travel to iraq to handle it. What a waste of our tax dollars!

Inhofe is a tool. We used to call southern politicians who could be bought off for a few bucks "Yellow Dog Democrats". Now they are "yellow dog republicans". Inhofe, Cheney, and the others make me think about stamping the donkey.
The Generals didn't want this war.

Hey RT - counting terrorist attacks are you? Ask 4,000 dead US soldiers and tens of thousands of dead Iraqis to help with the math.

on 9/11, we were unexpectedly attacked by individuals, mostly from SAUDI FREAKIN' ARABIA (none from Iraq), who, in our view, should have no beef with us. we were outraged. incensed. we became angry. we sought vengeance. we missed the target with that vengeance, invading a country wholly unrelated to what happened in 9/11.
but WE WERE ATTACKED BY TERRORISTS. they invaded us.
imagine you are an iraqi citizen. you have never met an american. you know about america, but it's a far off and distant land. maybe you feel positive about that country, maybe not. but america has nothing to do with you.
suddenly, your country is INVADED, attacked. your people are being killed. thousands and thousands ~ hundred of thousands ~ and for what? what did iraq do to cause this invasion?
NOTHING. NOT A FREAKIN' THING. iraq did NOTHING to us.
so i ask you, who are the terrorists now?
the united states of america, by virtue of invading iraq and threatening other countries, has done more to further the cause of the terrorists than anything or anyone else.
we have CREATED an al qaeda in iraq where none existed in before. we have stolen the lives of hundreds of thousands of iraqi citizens and over 3700 american citizens for NOTHING.
we haven't protected ourselves by our terrorist act against the sovereign nation of iraq. we have simply fueled the terrorist fires, justifying our initial behavior with the end result of our actions.
shame on the united states. shame. and i say that with an aching heart because i love my country. what we have done in iraq is a travesty.
george bush and his neocon and corporate cronies are liars, thieves, shameless thugs who should be tried for war crimes and locked up.
if it can ever happen, it will be years and years and years before we can undo the damage that we have done to world stability and the middle east with our unilateral and unprovoked attack on iraq.

Wouldn't it be nice if just one of the congressional trips to Iraq resulted in some postive action.
The Republicans are looking for a way to stay in Iraq and the Democrats are looking for a way to get out. As more and more Republicans jump ship like Warner and Lugar, the get out part comes closer to reality.
Will Rogers once said "If stupidity got us into this mess why can't it get us out?"
