Ex-teacher gets probation in library porn case
SUSPENDED SENTENCE

A former Tulsa teacher who was accused of accessing child pornography at the downtown Tulsa City-County Library has received a four-year suspended sentence.
William Lee Hunter Jr., 42, pleaded guilty Wednesday to a felony count of possessing child pornography in accordance with a plea agreement that requires supervised probation but not prison time.
Tulsa County Special Judge Carlos Chappelle ordered Hunter -- who was free on bond -- to pay a $500 fine, a $250 victims compensation assessment and court costs.
Hunter said that on July 2 he "watched and viewed child pornography on a public library computer," a court record shows.
Tulsa Public Schools records show that Hunter taught during the 2006-07 school year at Springdale Elementary School, 2510 E. Pine St.
Hunter, who had been a TPS employee since 2002, submitted his resignation effective at the end of last school year, a school official said.
Police said a security guard noted suspicious behavior by Hunter at the Central Library and "watched his activity from a covert position." The guard saw Hunter view child pornography videos and called police, an investigator reported.
Detective W. Scott Gibson's affidavit states that when interviewed, Hunter said the "child pornography website and videos were already opened" when he sat down at an open computer. Hunter admitted that he browsed the Web site and viewed the videos, according to Gibson.
Defense attorney Kevin Adams said the case was resolved under a statute that does not require sex-offender registration.
The outcome gives Hunter a felony conviction, and "he will not be able to teach again," Adams said Wednesday.
A library official previously said a filter system protects the computers but cannot catch everything in the ever-evolving Internet.

I firmly believe this man will attack a child at some point in the future.
It won't be my children, but, whomever child it turns out to be, should thank our court system, for only giving this guy a slap on the wrist.
They should at LEAST, move him out of Tulsa!!!

He had child porn. What is our courts waiting on? a molested child? I understand we can not punish him for molesting a child that he has not done YET. However we can use the Full amount of punishment for the kiddie porn charge. I bet he already has victims. He set himself up to have access by being a teacher. He should be locked up at least.

Would the court's decision enrage you even more if you knew that he is also a foster parent??? Or what about the "statute" that the case was "resolved" under.... the term lack of statute fits better. Oklahoma has no laws pertaining to internet crimes of this type AT ALL!!! That is why he is not in prison now! It is also the reason he won't be registered as a sex offender either!! Now he is free to move into any neighborhood in Tulsa and you'd never even know he was there unless you saved this article with his name and picture on you fridge!!! WAKE UP YOUR LEGISLATORS, FOLKS!!! THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!!!!

I’ll make everyone a deal. Turn off the cameras, tell the judges and politicians to take a break, and give me 24 hours to clean up the town…Or better yet, maybe we could let the “SYSTEM” clock in Monday thru Thursday. Then my crew and I could spend Fridays washin’ the streets and scrubbin’ some toilets. You’d never hear another story about this individual, or anyone like ‘em, again. Deal?

look, we can't even trust the people cloaked in black robes of faith (priests) or justice (judges) let alone some teacher. stories such as this happen all too often and I believe they are covered up by the schools, just like the pedophile priest controversy was covered up all the way to the top of the hypocritic holy chain.

Parents, I would be ever vigilant in watching teachers and others who are very close to and spend a great deal of time with your children. Even a situation as seemingly benign as the 50 something year old
high school teacher who hangs out at bars where young kids hang out, or the soccer coach who has affairs with soccer moms and is coaching their daughters. These types of behaviors in adult men that go beyond the norm should strike a nerve with you parents! If you suspect - ask and bring it to someone's attention. Better to be safe than sorry.
