PAULS VALLEY – Hundreds of people attended a funeral Mass on Thursday for an Oklahoma Marine who was killed last week in Iraq.

About 500 people attended services for Cpl. Bryan J. Scripsick, 22, at the First United Methodist Church. He was killed last Thursday.

Burial followed at Mount Olivet Cemetery, five miles south of the city. Hundreds of residents lined the streets to pay tribute to Scripsick.

While the family home is in Wayne, Scripsick graduated in 2004 from Pauls Valley High School, where he played safety and wide receiver on the football team.

According to the Department of Defense, Scripsick was among four Marines killed while conducting combat operations in Anbar province in western Iraq.

The others were identified as Cpl. Christopher L. Poole Jr., 22, of Mount Dora, Fla.; Staff Sgt. John C. Stock, 26, of Longview, Texas; and Sgt. Michael J. Yarbrough, 24, of Malvern, Ark.

All were assigned to the 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 1st Marine Division of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force based out of Camp Pendleton, Calif.

According to his family, Scripsick died as the result of a suicide bomb attack.
