A recently opened Tulsa barbecue restaurant combines traditional flavors with original flair and some offerings that may not be found anywhere else.

Rib Wurx BBQ serves favorites such as brisket, pulled pork, chicken and hot links, as well as some of its own barbecue creations.

Among the restaurant's original offerings is the crispy rib, which is a batter-dipped, fried, smoked rib, said owner Brian Prince.

"We take a smoked rib, batter it twice and deep fry it," Prince said.

Homemade buttermilk pies and sides such as potato wedges, okra and barbecue beans also are on the menu.

Prince said he's been a barbecue enthusiast for much of his life, and his restaurant is an evolution of his Rib Wurx competition barbecue team, which has won titles across the state and beyond.

The team also will compete this fall in the Jack Daniel's World Championship Invitational Barbecue in Tennessee, Prince said.

Barbecue team member and Rib Wurx employee Bobby Thompson said the restaurant is always willing to try something new and likely will add more original ideas to the menu from time to time.

"We're coming out with a lot of different things," he said, noting that some originals such as the crispy rib already seem to be gaining favor with visitors.

The restaurant offers dine-in, carry out and delivery service, including a lunch truck to serve large groups of people.

Sharon Rodriguez, who manages the lunch truck service, said offerings include all sorts of items, including breakfast foods as well as traditional favorites.

"Anything you can think of, we'll put it together," she said. "We have a large variety."
