Local Hispanic leaders have announced plans to announce a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the state’s new immigration law.
House Bill 1804, the Taxpayers and Citizens Protection Act, is due to go into effect Nov. 1. It would make it a felony to transport, conceal or shelter an undocumented immigrant from detection. It also prevents illegal immigrants from getting jobs and public assistance.
The Rev. Miguel Rivera, president of the National Coalition of Latin Clergy and Christian Leaders, is expected to make the announcement at a noon news conference Friday at the Tulsa’s Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, 10802 E. 31st St.
Also at the news conference, the Rev. Victor Orta II, president of the American Dream Coalition, will ask for a moratorium on immigration raids and deportations until Congress agrees on a comprehensive and fair immigration reform, according to a press release.

Fair?
I cant believe a pro-illegal immigration person would actually call it fair for illegals to get benefits (at times free) that citizens must pay out the nose for.
It wont be fair until 'illegals' relize that they should not be getting benefits that citizens get.
And free at that. Like at the YWCA where you can get free medical assistance whether illegal or not..if you are hispanic.
Personally, I have no intention of ever selling to or buying from a 'illegal' if I can figure out a way to avoid it.
Its not racist to insist that illegals make some effort to become legal.
As the son of a immigrant..I insist that until illegals make that effort that they are in fact criminals.
(Btw I know some illegals who have been illegal since before I was born 49 years ago).

If Orta, Rivera, and Alfonso don't like Oklahoma laws that Oklahomans voted on and passed they should move to another state, or country.

get ready to lose, carpetbaggers! I would LOVE to see this challenge, but no judge better postpone this law going into effect while the challenge is pending.

This is just stupid. The INS is so bad when it comes to letting us work visa holders to get in to the USA. We being legal residents have to face so much pressure and pain.....I was made to wait for 2 months outside USA when I went out for vacation and they said they had to do a background check. But these illegal immigrants keep pouring in and there is no security issues here?? I cant believe there are people who support it.

Why do these people baby these illegals now! My husband was illegal 30 yrs ago & we went through all the proper channels to clean up his status. And we proved he was a good guy with no criminal record. After 10 yrs of being a legal resident he became an American citizen. He knows English & uses it. We never got any FREE aid & I am an American Citizen. It burns me up that all these coming now are trying to turn this city into Little Mexico. They don't learn the language & they think this is the place to get FREE aid. They need to work 7 days a week like my husband does & those women need to get off their butts & work like I always have to help live in this country comfortable. Until they are legal residents THEY SHOULD HAVE NO RIGHTS & NO FREE SERVICES. And Learn English!!! This is not Mexico This is AMERICA! Speak English!!!

Talk about racists! The only ones causing problems - the ones trying to STOP OUR AMERICAN LAWS IN OUR OWN COUNTRY - are the Hipsanics! What is it about 'these' people? Why do they think they are so special and above OUR laws? They couldn't get away with this crap in Mexico, but they can here!
The preachers/priests are the worst ones who try to stop our laws!!!!!!! I hope they don't think since they're 'men of the cloth' that we'll feel guilty and give up.
Don't these preachers realize the Bible instructs us to follow man's laws in addition to God's laws? The illegals are lawbreakers!

I just don't understand how illegals think they should get the rights and benefits of legal citizens without having to do anything for it. Being an American should mean something. It really gets me when I see banks with signs in Spanish and billboards in Spanish. I live here and I need a translator. I would not consider moving to another country and refuse to learn the language and just expect that country to bow to me. If they want to live here and work here, learn to speak English, get drivers license, insurance and live by the laws the rest of us have to. They act like they deserve special treatment because they are illegal.

Wait until Congress agrees? Screw Congress!!!
It's their lack of doing anything about this disaster that is ruining our country! This better not delay the H.B.1804 otherwise you will hear it from every legal citizen in this State.

Illegal aliens are to blame for this backlash against them. They demonstrate in our streets, wave their foreign flags, they take advantage of our social services, refuse to speak the language or obey the laws of this country, and demand rights they haven’t earned. Now, they are trying to usurp United States law with the apparent approval of our government. Is it any wonder why Americans are sick of them?

Just because you had it the hard way, everyone should have it the same? No!!! We have to move on. We are a Country of opportunity, yes true they came illegally, but everyone deserves a second chance. If we are not opening any doors for them, why close the few that they have. Many of them come here to work, that’s all, work. They are not asking for nothing more than the chance to better themselves. To not work anymore under the shadows, and what do we respond with? By telling them that not even under the shadows they could work. Where are we taking the Country? To an era where we did not wanted any change. Is time for change and sometimes even if things look really bad and even illegal, in the long run they would benefit us, and maybe we won’t see it but our future generations are. We have to be the example of an open minded generation, which allows change.

stupid white folk who came to this continent illegally, who took the lands of this oklahoma territory away from the indigenous illegally and violently, now, fat and armed you try to justify your hatred and bigotry against one of the most vital movements of population this country has experienced. d*mn your hate and more so, your smug ignorance. oil has peaked and food prices are going to sky rocket, are you going to move back to the farm and get up before darn to milk the cows, feed the chickens, bale the hay and ride the fences? i think not, you are too busy watching survivor, american idol, or checking you cell phone. latin culture has a higher work ethic, values children, family and the word of god equal to you if not more, the entire hemisphere is the americas, the only true use of the name, the torch of freedom, equality, liberty, once carried here is held higher throughout the south, while the usa succumbs to corporate rule. by the way i am 3/4 english and quarter scottish, with huey long and anne boleyn in my blood, but i have the vision to see the beauty of my latin sisters and brothers and fully embrace them. and you all dare to call yourselves christians. shame!

Hope the law makes it. Taxes need to help Oklahomans. it is a land of opportunity, but for who? Poor gets Poorer, Illegals get richer. they need to be documented, maybe a little leniency for the ones that were stupid to jeopardize their innocent children, otherwise, ship them back if they are illegal.

Some of the tactics are not fair! Example: American married Mexican 4 years ago. He has filed his papers to become a citizen but have not been finalized yet. Married couple has 4 year old daughter. He is stopped and arrested for deportation. They do not allow sufficient time for his wife and daughter to even visit him before they deport him. How is this Justice when you are taking a husband and a father away??? Sorry guys doesn't seem fair, mostly because he has been trying to do what the law wants him to do to become a citizen.

So KC....
You believe that Mexicans don't have to follow our laws and requirements?
Great! Let's all live that way!
-
Want to drive at age 12? No problem! Just do it. Why go through the hassle of getting a license?
-
Want to open a restaurant? Go for it! Why go through the hassle of getting health permits. Requirements are unfair!
-
Want to practice medicine or be a school teacher? Just do it! Who needs to bother with university or any formal training? That's too much work!
-
Want a car but can't afford it? Just steal it! Loan applications are too cumbersome and it takes too long anyway!
-
Man...this is going to be GREAT!

80% of the American people want an end to anarchy!
Illegal workers are criminals, those who hire them are criminals and those who aid-and-abet them are criminals.
Illegal aliens in America have NO rights. We are required by law to arrest and prosecute, deport them.
No, matter your political party affiliation, and setting aside your thoughts on issues. We all need to remember what it is to be an American Citizen. We need to make sure our elected representatives obey their Oath of Office and keep their Oath of Allegiance.

Curtis, you have no idea what you are talking about when you are talking about Latin family values. Facts:
- Mexico has the highest murder rate in the Western Hemisphere.
- In Honduras, if a girl isn't pregnant by age 14 she considers herself ugly.
- Central American newspapers report that government corruption won't end until the current leaders are killed.
- Prostitution is rampant throughout Central America.
- POOR work ethic and POOR educational standards have led to poverty throughout Central America.
-
Go to Honduras for a week and see what you find. Is that what you want here?

I have a cousin in Europe who is a pharmacist, speaks 5 languages including English and Spanish, and I still can't get him into the United States. Being first generation American, my family had to do things according to the rules. Not only that, but they had to learn the English language. It seems that the Hispanic population has come here and we are catering to their every need. Why even have immigration laws if we're ignoring or even commending those who break them?
