The latest on this story:
ORU faces lawsuit
Document:
Read the lawsuit.
Three former Oral Roberts University professors are suing the university’s president and three other executives, claiming they were wrongfully forced out of the school.
The suit against ORU -- filed by Dr. John Swails, Dr. Tim Brooker and Dr. Paulita Brooker -- includes a synopsis of a document describing the rich lifestyle of ORU President Richard Roberts and his family at the expense of the school and the Oral Roberts Ministry.
The suit alleges that Richard Roberts insisted that the Tim Brooker use students to work of the mayoral campaign of Randi Miller last year.
The suit says Brooker resisted the effort, and then was blamed for it when it became public, putting the school's non-profit status in question.
The suit alleges that an ORU student gave Brooker a document, reputedly prepared by a senior ORU employee, describing troubling spending of ORU money
on the part of Richard Roberts and his family.
The suit says Brooker was dismissed after he turned the document over to the school's board of regents.
In addition to suing the university, the three professors are suing Richard Roberts; Mark Lewandowski, executive vice president for academic affairs and provost; Wendy Shirk, dean; and Jeff Ogle, vice provost of academic advancement.

Didn't Richard Roberts endorse Randi Miller for mayor? The courts exist to protect the right of people -- no matter how unpopular they might be.

Well. We will see the true outcome of the lawsuit. I am surprised that some professors confronted the closeness of a few administrators to politicians. I wonder if it was because Mayor Lafortune promised funding in the 2025 plan to fix Fred Creek. The truth, no matter the circumstance, be found.

I don't know the specifics of the allegations necessarily, but I do know that these professors better be certain of what they claim. They are literally putting the livelihoods of thousands of people at risk. It sounds like some disgruntled professors who were fired because they did not perform well. I hope they check their motivation and are not trying to take down the University because they are angry.

These poor professors were lead off campus by security in front of their classes for taking the fraud information not to the press but to a board member. They were ridiculed for doing the biblical "right" thing. Their not the ones who will take down ORU for what they are doing but God who will not allow a child to ruin their father's good name. This school no longer stands for what Oral and God called this school to be!

This is a terrible situation. The university needs prayer and maybe something good and learned will come of this for everyone.

One of those professors taught me last semester and I had complete respect for him. I was unaware of the drama that this article reports, but I do know that he was, and would still be, a great professor. This is to me like knowing two people and being great friends with them, but they are not so good friends with each other. Which side do you take? I am still a student at Oral Roberts and plan to graduate from here. I just pray that this lawsuit would not be destructive to the capabilities of the university to continue to raise leaders for the next generation. I pray both sides will be humble as they sort out these details.

The "campus that God built?" LOL, more like the campus that fraud build. Plus--and I'm fairly certain about this--God has much better taste in architecture.

That is true. This did happen.Richard tried to cover up his wrongs by firing his board members of trusted area pastors and fired the people who knew the truth hoping they would just forget about it. These men did no worng and were treated like criminals. This move is a typical Richard and Lindsay move if you know them at all. They remove anyone who doesn't follow exactly what they say. This is too bad for Oral, his good name will never be the same.

Rachel & Peter... you seem to know the situation very well. What kind of involvement did these people have with the local political race? What "fraud information" did they take to the board member? Please specify your allegations.

Stacy, in my experience, the best response to a comment like Nathan's is no response at all.

I don't really care what allegations people place on President Roberts and Lindsay. Those two are as a father and mother to Oral Roberts University, and I believe that one would be hard pressed to find any leadership that compares across the nation in that respect. They truly love the students--probably more than any president and president's wife of any university in the US and maybe even the world.

In response to DC and Ridiculous I'd say that your statements about Richard and Lindsay are a matter of opinion. As a graduate I cannot say that I agree. I do have respect for Pres. Roberts but I do not trust whole heartedly or feel that he and Lindsay love the students to the extent you express. All in all, I hope that the truth comes out and the right decisions are made.

Many DC area alumni have been meeting about this issue for a long time actually. Nothing is as it seems but all that is done in secret will be brought to the light. When I was a student there I looked up to my leadership, but it is now, and has been evident for about two years, that this was going on. Anybody involved should know. Also discussions on this have been held for quite some time.
if you go to the ORU sports message board and look in the alumni discussion forum, look at the date, from there meetings were organized.

I'm glad the professors are standing up to the corruption of Richard Roberts. It's about time someone did. I know, I've worked there. I agree with Nathan. The tacky architecture is an embarrassment to the city. Always has been.

There is more to the story that has not been addressed yet, and may not come out until the thing goes to court. What I was referencing was inappropriate involvement in political activities and the leveraging of information to keep teachers in check, (hence why some resigned and are suing for being fired). Thats what I meant. Also these allegation of sexual harassment are rooted in 2004-2005, but are only now being brought to record.

*Could* have been rooted in 2004-2005, I should say.

I was a Golden Eagle back in the late 90's and two of my former professors were sacked because they dared to voice their opinion against Lindsay and Richard. Richard is nothing like Oral and Lindsay is sinister and has a mouth that will make a sailor blush. She had a friend of mine fired because he dared to speak to her while he was cleaning her car. Anyone who has ever been "behind the scene" at ORU knows the Lindsay rule - you NEVER talk to Lindsay unless she speaks to you first.

Nathan, you hit the nail on the head so hard you made someone cry. BUT YOU WERE RIGHT! The whole university was built by FRAUD NOT GOD. Maybe if this doesn't go the way the Roberts' want it to, then God will have to call Oral home like he threatened to before. WHAT A SCAM FOLKS! Looks like another one bites the dust. HEY STACY, it's all about MONEY not religion. Are you so naive that you haven't figured that out by now? Pull your head out of your rear end for Pete's sake!

Randi Miller would have given Lindsay's sister a job if elected. Miller would have been the biggest nitwit this city could have elected. Anyone wonder if all of Richard's troubles come from Lindsay???? Yep!
