Oral Roberts University and its president's wife, Lindsay Roberts, issued written statements on Saturday saying claims and accusations added to a lawsuit on Friday are untrue.
A report newly attached to the lawsuit on Friday contained allegations that Roberts, 51, spent a great deal of time with an underage male.
"I live my life in a morally upright manner and throughout my marriage have never, ever engaged in any sexual behavior with any man outside of my marriage as the accusations imply," Roberts said in her statement.
"Allegations against me in a lawsuit yesterday are not true. They sicken me to my soul," she said.
The lawsuit, as amended Friday, also added ORU's board of regents as a defendant and contained a new legal claim that the board had neglected to oversee, authorize and supervise the conduct of defendants ORU, President Richard Roberts and administrators Mark Lewandowski, Wendy Shirk and Jeff Ogle, evidenced by those parties allegedly allowing a "convicted sexual deviant unrestricted access to the students of the university" as a "mentor" hired by Richard Roberts to work with students.
A written statement attributed to the university says, "The allegations that the university employed a sexual deviant are untrue."
Plaintiffs also supported their claim of negligence by alleging in the lawsuit that the board allowed ORU and Richard Roberts to fire ORU's financial comptroller and then shred and destroy "voluminous materials and documents ... constituting spoilation of evidence."
"The allegations that the university purposely or improperly destroyed documents are also untrue," according to the two-sentence statement from ORU.

The only thing that will halfway "redeem" these professors is if they publicly apologize concerning this lawsuit! If the Roberts' were truly guilty, they would not be open to having everything checked and re-checked to see if "there's something wrong and fix it". The way they are being attacked is ridiculous and I pray that they and ORU come out even stronger than before.

How ridiculous is this going to get before it's over!? Seriously? I have a hard time believing anything holds any truth anymore because of the accusations coming forth. The only thing more ridiculous than this right now is the LSU game against Kentucky.

Isaiah 59:19
So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him. This is the Word of the Lord for ORU faculty and students and all who have been blessed and touched by the Lord by ORU. I believe, like as Brother Daugherty said, his heart is in ORU, my heart is for ORU also, but it's the heart of the Holy Ghost that birthed and raised up ORU and will burn out the chaff that preaches or dictates or tries to come against with a one size fits all theology that gives blanket absolution to the liberal mind set of homosexuality, lesbianism, and the abortionists. These are the last days.
Ephesians 5:15-17
15See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
16Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
17Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
I believe the will of the Lord is for ORU to always be led by the Holy Ghost, to be filled with the Holy Ghost, and to burn like the torch on the Campus of ORU for the glory of Jesus Christ

To Richard & Lindsay Roberts
Matthew 5:10-12
10Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

I feel that the Roberts lives are not lived
in a moral upright manner. If that were the
case, these weird activities, hours, spending,
partying, etc, would not be the norm in their
lives. Not saying they cheat on each other,
but they invite speculation, IMO.
The morning paper was filled with reports
about Lindsay's behavior. Where did all the
data come from??? Photos, numbered visits,
etc.

As an ORU alumnus, I have been trying to make sense out of all the allegations that have been brought against the Roberts'. I am thankful that news outlets allow the public to view the actual documents within the lawsuit. Here on the Tulsa World website, you can link to a PDF File of the actual document containing these allegations that the plantiff's had in their possession and gave to the ORU Board of Regents. At the top of the first page it states "Investigation of Potential Areas of legal and/or financial issues in the University and Ministry have yielded the following areas of potential vulnerability." As I read this, it struck me that this was probably a summary of detailed reports from a private investigator. Richard Roberts stated that this was just Stephanie Cantese updating him on "rumors" going around the organization... really? Would rumors be this detailed and reference photos and other documentation to back up the claims? If all of this info is bogus, why hasn't Stephanie Cantese (Lindsay's sister) come out and explained and/or denied the information? Furthermore, what was this doing on Stephanie's hard drive? Did Stephanie order the investigation herself? These are all key questions that I hope the lawsuit may answer. Sadly, this is all turning into a soap opera, and will certainly hurt ORU and I believe it is all very sad... I, like many alumni, still believe in ORU's mission and do not want to see our alma mater wither away...

Lindsay...the new allegation sicken you to your soul? We (ORU Alumni and current students) have been sickened by your actions that aren't even mentioned in this lawsuit. Your general smugness, vindictive, elitist, arogant, and hypocritical behavior over the last decade has made most of us totally sick. If you want to know why your Alumni aren't giving money, look no further than yourself. I say BRAVO to Dr. Swails and everyone else for having the guts to stand up and do what is right.
Terri in Owasso, you need to check the facts and then YOU apologive to these professors for your ignorance of the issues stated in the suit. Read the documents. If you read them, you would realize that it took a lot of courage to file the lawsuit, and was not an easy decision, which was only done AFTER they were pretty much laughed at when they presented to the joke of a Board of Regents...

This is why I don't attend church. Got tired of everyone staring at me or trying to stop me whenever I felt the need to walk out in the middle of a sermon. Now, I watch on TV and have the authority to change the channel when I feel like I'm going to vomit. Good luck to the Roberts family and to anyone who believes in them. All of you are going to need it.

GREAT point #10...if these issues are just bogus, why would Ms. Cantese not issue a statement clearing everything up. The ONLY reason could be due the fact that there is some truth in them.
The other thing that strikes me is the confirmation by Richard Roberts statement that is apparently taped stating that he stacks the deck when it comes to the Board of Regents...and he fires them if he has a disagreement with them...that makes me feel real good about this supposed "external auditing firm" that is going to double check everything at the direction of the Board of Regents...

Re #10: you are dead on! If true, why are there photos--many photos--of LR at all hours. My guess is that either Richard or more likely Stephanie hired the PI for their own reasons: paranoia (Richard) or vindictiveness(Stephanie).

To those of you who actually took time to read the report in question! Be honest! What qualifications did this Stephanie have, if she has the literacy of maybe a 7 year old. After reading the report...I'd say there was a lot of famly benefits if Stephanie had a job at all. Richard couldn't spring for spell check!

To Richard and Lindsay Roberts:
Guess what, folks? The fact is that it just really doesn't matter whether the things you guys have been accused of are true or they're not. The whole point here is that doubt and questions have been raised and damage has been done. You two are obviously very upset about what is being said about you and are denying it left and right. Well, you're apparently completely forgetting the old saying that where there's smoke, there's fire. Number one, if you had been living your lives the way you were SUPPOSED to be this whole time, you wouldn't HAVE anything to deny in the first plce. In the second place, I'm 43 years old and I have a lot of practical experience in dealing with people. It's generally BEEN my experience that people don't usually get that upset about being accused of something IF THERE'S NOTHING TO IT. If you ARE telling the truth and there truly IS nothing to any of these allegations, then why have three respected, qualified professors and a financial comptroller lost their positions in the last two months? Why do you, Lindsay, have cellphone bills totalling HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS PER MONTH for conversations with UNDERAGE MALE STUDENTS OF ORU WHO ARE TALKING TO YOU ON PHONES PROVIDED WITH UNIVERSITY MONEY? If there is nothing untoward going on, then you won't mind explaining that, will you? Well, you might as well start talking, because you have a public who deserves to know the truth, and an increasing number of people are figuring out that they're not getting it from you two. Mr. and Mrs. Roberts, here's your clue: if you've done nothing wrong, then you have nothing to explain and you have nothing to worry about. If you have, that will eventually come out. That said, you already KNOW what's going to happen with this whether anyone else does or not.

To all the folks who are leaving recipes on here: I'm sure the finished products are delicious and thank you for sharing, but this isn't the appropriate place for that. This is not the Senate and we are not filibustering here. This is a forum for discussion about the sordid mess that ORU's misguided, dishonest leadership is presenting to the public these days. If you want to talk about desserts, then why don't you find a forum for that? The internet is loaded with them. Oh, and one more thing to the people at ORU who are under scrutiny right now: if you don't want the public asking questions, digging into your lives, and firing uncomfortable, awkward questions at you, then stop handing people the ammunition -- i.e., questionable cellphone bills, damaging documents left on computers, financial records clearly detailing tens of thousand of dollars in misspent funds, etc. What goes around comes around. God has a way of keeping score, and you know it as well as everyone else does. We'll see what happens, won't we.

Tell you what, all you bakers out there: take all these recipes that are showing up on this forum, make them up, and take the food to ORU as a charitable donation, attention the Roberts family. That way, EVERYBODY'S happy: they get free food, you can write it off on your income tax, and just maybe if you get REALLY lucky, the university will pay you.
