OKLAHOMA CITY -- A state lawmaker has strongly objected to receiving a Centennial copy of the Quran, compliments of the Governor's Ethnic American Advisory Council.

Rep. Rex Duncan, R-Sand Springs, wrote his fellow legislators Monday that he is refusing a copy of the Quran because, ''Most Oklahomans do not endorse the idea of killing innocent women and children in the name of ideology.''

Marjaneh Seirafi-Pour, a Muslim, chairwoman of the governor's council, said she received a call from Duncan wondering whether state money was used to buy the books.

''Members of the Oklahoma Muslim community paid for copies of the Quran,'' she said.

Seirafi-Pour said, ''We are not trying to force anything on anyone. This is a peaceful, thoughtful project to introduce ourselves to leaders.''

She estimated that there are 30,000 to 50,000 Muslims in Oklahoma.

In fairness, before JFK and the Civil Rights Bill of '64 hateful idiots like certain Republicans from west Texas were usually Democrats.

And just how many have died at the hands of people claiming to be acting on the "word of God" as written in the bible? We need an ACT test before allowing people to run for our state legislature inasmuch as we do for our children who plan to enter college. Maybe then our legislature and our state government's time wouldn't be wasted on such ignorance.

If these 30,000-50,000 muslims are Illegal Immigrants then they should pack their bags to leave after HB 1804 goes into effect.

Cool! Textbook bigotry that I can use as an example to teach my kids about the need for tolerance regardless of beliefs. Also, I can explain to them how to accept an unwanted gift with grace and dignity. I hate to see how Mr. Duncan reacts when he gets a cheesy tie for a gift.

So, ET, have you actually read part of the Qur'an? Where is it that it says to kill anyone who is not a muslim? I just read the first few chapters out of curiosity, and there is a whole lot about respecting other religions. For example, "Those who believe in the Qur'an, and those who follow the Jewish, and the Christian...And work righteousness, shall have their reward with their Lord; on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve" (Surah 2).

It is so unfortunate that the ignorance of some of our law makers comes from some of their constituents. How many of those who criticize Quran have actually read any part of it? Islam is the most caring and compassionate religion. How many Moslem countries have attacked and invaded other non-Moslem countries or toppled other governments? How many non-Moslem countries are under occupation by Moslem country governments, NONE., But so many Moslem countries are invaded and are under occupation by our country, and Mr. Bush/ Mr. Cheney are beating the drums to start another one. All for OIL. If Moslem countries are so bad why did Mr. Cheney, our vice-president, moved Haliburton headquarters to Middle East? Saddam Hussein was puppet of our government and did all of the dirty work for us in the Middle East, like attacking Iran and Kuwait, until he was needed no more. There is great evidence that our, U.S., government was involved in 9-11-2001 disaster and blamed it on some unsuspecting Arabs because that is where the OIL is, in Arab countries. Have you ever asked yourselves why NONE of the Israeli workers at the World Trade Centers, 3000 to 4000 of them on daily basis, went to work at WTC on 9-11-2001, not even one? That indicates they were involved in 9-11-2001 attack on America. So you can blame everything on Moslem, but all you have to do is look in your own backyard. We either respect others and be tolerant and understanding of other believes, as our democracy and constitution demands, oops Mr. Bush and Cheney destroyed those to, or let ignorance and lack of knowledge create bigotry and hostility. A gift of knowledge promotes peace and tranquility, and the refusal of such gift deepens ones ignorance. May God shine light in the heart and mind of those who missed the humanity train.
