Update: Judge rejects injunction to block HB 1804
Oklahoma state Attorney General Drew Edmondson. Sue Ogrocki/AP

Watch a slide show and read all the stories in a series on the immigration of thousands of people from Casa Blanca to Tulsa.
Read all of the Tulsa World’s coverage of House Bill 1804.
U.S. District Judge James Payne has rejected an effot to prevent the state's controversial anti-illegal immigration law from going into effect Thursday.
House Bill 1804 becomes law at midnight.
Payne filed his ruling electronically at 6:04 p.m. Wednesday after the courthouse had closed for the day.
He rejected preliminary injunction requested by the National Coalition of Latino Clergy Inc., another Hispanic advocacy group, two churches, a construction company, a restaurant and several anonymous people.
While Payne didn't blocked the law from taking effect, he did not rule on its constitutionality.
At a Wednesday hearing before Payne, the plaintiffs in the caseargued that the law was unconstitutional.
Attorneys for Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson argued that the law was constitutional and the suit was inappropriate because the plaintiffs couldn't show that they were hurt by the law before it goes into effect.
Payne has scheduled further filings from the plaintiffs and the state. He could later find the law to be unconstitutional.
The law would make it a felony to knowingly transport illegal aliens, created state barriers to hiring illegal aliens, require state contractors to check the immigration status of workers and require proof of citizenship to receive certain government benefits.

It's amazing how these people sticking up for illegals, don't seem to see that there is harm going on for the people here legally for a long time. It's not right for someone here illegally, to be taking jobs that are supposed to be for legal workers. And no business can compete without doing this, which means legal workers are essentially blacklisted. This is wrong. It's our country. Mexico discriminates against illegal workers. Why is it alright for them, but not for us?

Illegal alien invaders get out of our state. We are sick of your miserable attempts to circumvent the law.You bring gangs, drugs and violence to our city. We don't want you here. Go back to Mexico-NOW.

Ricardo, you are a true mental giant. Only illegals who are already arrested for crimes face possible deportation. You must be listening to the good "revs" to have come to such a conclusion. If you're legal , you're welcome in Oklahoma; if not, we don't want to pay for your sorry selves. Aye, carumba !

When did it become controversial to enforce the law and to stop an illegality?

It's not just Tulsan's that want this bill passed...it's not just South Tulsa either. It's ALL OVER THE STATE. If you can't respect our country enough to reside here legally....GET OUT! I've had illegals approach my home in the country wanting work. I would have happily paid them to do work if they could even produce a green card...but guess what, no green cards. No green card, no money. My husband and I aren't rich, we work HARD for our money...and we are happy to help out others who live here legally, but I'm not handing over my hard earned money to someone who doesn't even pay taxes (like I do). We would have even been willing to sponsor some people who truly wanted to make things right in our country by starting the process to become legal. We are happy to help those who WANT to follow the legal processes...but if you choose to thumb your nose at our legal system and our laws....then I'm not going to HELP you live here.

#9 is right. We never had gangs, drugs or violence in Tulsa until the migrant workers showed up. As soon as they're gone we won't have crime or potholes in the streets. HB1804 for president!

tsk tsk charles not all illegals are from mexico. see how ignorant people like u try to say something smart but only wind up lookin stupid. and about the drugs if mexicans bring gangs drugs and violence u guys buy into it or try to do ur own thing in ur own way. u form ur own gangs (kkk) u buy drugs, and u commit violence so how can u say mexicans bring it with them but yet u follow in their footsteps. u should just shut up and admit illegals will still be here

Its about time Oklahoma did something. Hopefully, the other states will follow. I am sick and tired of working my butt off and paying for illegals to have medical care, food stamps, housing, and so on. If the illegals want to be in this great country, LET THEM FOLLOW THE RULES!!! If NOT, GO BACK TO WHERE YOU CAME FROM, YOUR NOT WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It will be surprising to see where this law takes us as a state. I don't know what it's going to do or how people will percieve it, but I think that we are in new territory.
I honestly think that anyone who will work for an hourly wage to do physical labor has sold themselves short. We should take greater pride in our educational system and strive to rise above competing with mexicans for physical labor. The cheaper they work at physical labor, the lower my prices are.

Who will catch the chickens in the chicken houses? When I owned a crew I couldn't get a white man to work more than two days. Who will stack the rocks on the pallets for $10.00 a pallet? Not the white boys down here! That's too much work. It's the same everywhere...it seems the only laborous job these boys here will do it cash there checks. I'm American myself, but I'm ashamed of how lazy our children have gotten. They don't want to work, they just want everything given to them! They think they are too good to wash dishes for minimum wage. The illegals are not bad for the economy, they spend the money they make. They buy products like TV's, VCR, DVD Players, Video Players to take back home with them when they go. Most don't want to stay here, most want to return home and purchase a fridge (a luxury item there) or a washing machine (also a luxury item there). The trades that they learn here also help them obtain employment in Mexico. One more thing to add...I won't refuse a hungry person food, a sick person medical attention, a tired soul a ride, that is not what the bible has taught me.

You shouldn't be so hateful to Ricardo. He's just trying to speak in this forum. Maybe we need a voice from the other side. If this forum was for likeminded people it would be called a pep-rally.
Broken English is better than no English. Don't be hateful.

#9 and #13, you are seriously delirious. I agree with Ricardo. If illegals go away, the gangs, drugs and violence will still be here. So, don't blame illegals in that, every nation has criminals.

Rocky, you bring up a good point - capitalism is king. Did you read the story on the front page today about the loss of construction workers? Where are the good ole boys? Why aren't they stepping up to fill these jobs?

I'm not a sellout, come on now. I believe in education. We should teach our children to do more important things than catch chickens or load pallets or even roof houses.
If you are teaching your kids that manual labor is an acceptable career path then you are cheating them.
We should push our children to be the best and smartest people that they can be. We should be owning the businesses and directing the labor not working 8 hours a day and going home to drink beer because it's all that's expected of us.
Come on now. These people are here to work. Why not let them work and we can manage it?
