Lawmaker notes Muslim influence

He points to the political contributions of a Henry adviser's family.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The family of a Muslim member of the Governor's Ethnic American Advisory Council has spent nearly $100,000 to influence elections since 2002, state Rep. Mike Reynolds said Wednesday.

Reynolds, R-Oklahoma City, said the political contributions prove that the council's intentions "run far beyond education efforts" and that Gov. Brad Henry is "simply rewarding key campaign contributors."

Among members on the council is Mohammad Farzaneh, whose family made contributions to candidates in several Democratic and Republican races for both state and federal office.

Paul Sund, spokesman for Gov. Brad Henry, said Wednesday: "Like all U.S. citizens, they have the right to support whatever cause or candidate they choose. They exercised that right when they contributed funds to the governor's opponent, Republican Ernest Istook, and a number of other Republican and Democratic candidates."

Records indicate that family members gave about $8,000 to Henry, and about $2,250 to Istook in the 2006 governor's race.

The council has been the subject of controversy recently with about 35 mostly Republican lawmakers declining to accept centennial editions of the Quran.

Members of the Farzaneh family could not be reached for comment late Wednesday afternoon. Brothers Mohammad and Jalal Farzaneh are owners of Home Creations, a homebuilding firm based in Oklahoma

City.

Reynolds recently called on Henry to disband or reform the ethnic advisory council, saying the group's members are all Muslim. Council chairwoman Marjan Seirafi-Pour said the intent of the council is to work with the government and others to build understanding of Islam.

We don't need further understanding of Islam.Anyone who does not understand the goal of Islam and the methods taught on how to reach that goal has not been watching the actual methods being used.We understand Islam too much already.

This story has been on the internet for two days and the Tulsa Whirled just decides to print it. Guess they ran out of wonderful things to say about Kathy Taylor.

Where are the jobs Kathy Taylor promised?

So, according to Reynolds' point of view, only Christians are permitted to influence political campaigns? In his dreams. I can't believe such idiocy is even considered worth printing. Obviously, the man is raving mad.

I cannot not believe that a religious organization such and Islam can contribute to a political party but the Baptists cannot????

Oh, by the way Islam is not an ethnice group, nation or race. It is a religious organization just like the Baptists and Catholics.

Good point Roger

Why is this council allowed to spread the religion of Islam under the name of the Governor's Enthic American Council. This council needs to be shut down ASAP.

Is there a Christian Advisory council? I think we all know the answer.

First of all, it isn't a religious group that contributed the money; it was two U.S. citizens whose religion is Islam. Second, lots of white anglo-saxon Americans--including women--also happen to embrace Islam, particulary the Sufi sect. And Islam is not an organization "just like the Baptists and Catholics." And I think the Governor gets plenty of advice from Christians without there being a Christian Advisory Council. I am appalled at how little people actually know about the topics they feel compelled to rag on about. Get an education, people.

Elect lawyers and car salesmen to office and see what we have. The people need to get the "anything for a buck" crowd out of office.

Dear CG

I wonder what would you do if you were in need of a heart or liver transplant and the only place you can do it in the state is at Nazih Zuhdi's transplant institute at Baptist hospital?

Would you decline the surgery because Dr. Zuhdi is a Muslim?

There are over 500 Muslim physicians in Oklahoma dedicating their life to improve all our lives.

This is just another example of blatant Muslim ignorance, and many of the "hate Muslims" posts are indicative of that gut-reflexive knowledge deficit. (oh no the Moslems are coming, you know the very one's we were supposed to "free" in Iraq, and not about taking their resources)

Indeed if two AMERICAN CITIZENS of the Islamic faith were to donate money to TWO POLITICAL PARTIES (BOTH REPUBLICAN AND DEMOCRAT) they have every American right to do so! The insinuation that there is some sort of cabal of "influence of these suspicious people" promoting understanding of their faith as evil is outrageous.

Indeed what we need is more money to educate insular, world-ignorant Americans about Islam and Muslims, the very people US politicians have been meddling with over in the Muslim MIddle East for the past 50 years. Maybe if they knew their customs better, Bush wouldn't able to instill fear in people and use 9/11 as a justification to invade a 7,000 mother of civilization like Iraq.

Indeed people need to learn about these very people and their beliefs so FoxNews may not be able to dehumanize and demonize them to portray 3rd world nations as threats to our very way of life.

We cannot afford to promote more wars, including one in the offing against Iran and maybe Syria.

Indeed our country is in a brink of recession so lets help our own. Learn about Muslims, one of the nicest peoples I know. And G-d forbid, if there is a new American led Crusade against Islam (led by Giuliani, Romney, or other delusional Republican) it will be for Israel and the military-industrial complex's sake. If we are bogged down only in 3rd world Iraq or in Afghanistan, how are you going to take on a civilization 4 and half times more ancient than America and expect to win?

May God Protect us all. And may God help us see who our true enemies of the Constitution are from within.

RON PAUL 2008!

"...there are over 500 Muslim physicians in Oklahoma dedicating their life to improve all our lives."

Do they belong to the Islamic Medical Association of North America?

the Islamic Medical Association of North America (IMANA) mission is to promote a greater awareness of Islamic medical ethics and values among Muslims and the community at large. Oh, oh, this organization says nothing about American medical ethics. Their vision is to become the recognized leader in national and global healthcare, guided by Islamic values! Their first objective is to "promote a better understanding, appreciation and propagation of Islam".

Check it out.
