Immigration law could spread to other states
By Associated Press

Last Modified: 11/12/2007 9:39 AM
OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma's anti-illegal-immigration law may be duplicated in other states, backers of the measure say.
The law, House Bill 1804, which took effect Nov. 1, bars illegal immigrants from obtaining jobs or public benefits and penalizes those who harbor or transport them.
Barbara Nichols of Emporia, Kan., founder of the Kansas Immigration Reform Effort, said Kansans might tweak HB 1804 "to better fit Kansas," but something akin to HB 1804 will be introduced at the next legislative session.
"Oklahoma's done all the groundwork as far as getting a bill passed," Nichols said. "And so far, the challenges against 1804 have been thrown out. And that's an advantage to any other state trying to do this."
There are more than 300 anti-illegal immigration groups in the country.
"With the success in Oklahoma, there's been just a fallout of people calling and e-mailing and wanting to know how we did it in Oklahoma," said Carol Helm, founder of Immigration Reform for Oklahoma Now.
In recent months, Helm has advised citizen groups from Kansas, Nebraska, Montana, California, Alabama and New Jersey about immigration enforcement campaigns.
Last week she was in Florida meeting with a congressional delegation.
She also said anti-illegal-immigration efforts are also under way in South Carolina, North Carolina, Utah, Missouri and Tennessee.

Alot to be proud of during our state's centennial. This also illustrates that citizen's in mass are finally addressing this assault on our nation & NOT waiting for the do-nothing, sellout Feds ! I'm proud of what we've accomplished.

It's great that we "dumb Okies" can show all the other states how to accomplish what our do-nothing politicians in Washington can't do!!
1804 is the greatest!

I think it's time to face the facts, and the fact is that the majority of taxpaying Americans in this country are against paying for illegal aliens to live and work here. The anchor babies alone cost us 109 billion dollars per year. If the federal government won't enforce the laws, I'm happy to see that the states have finally found a way to make and enforce their own laws. But, every state has to do this or the problem will just move from state to state. I would suggest that everyone watch, read, and investigate every candidate running in the up-coming elections to find out their
stand on this issue before it is too late.
Don't forget to vote because illegal aliens in eight states have gotten driver's licenses and you can be sure they will vote in our elections and elect candidates who will keep them here.
Get involved and let your state know that we want to take our country back.

I doubt this bill will get very far. As soon as the government realizes that we might actually punish business people who hire illegals - that will be the demise of 1804.
I still want to know what we'll do with the 20 million or so illegals working and living in the US.
So far, no one, including that jackass of a legislator Randy Terrill, has come up with a realistic plan for dealing with them.

Well "sar, OKC", if you have a better idea than Rep. Randy Terrill why don't you share it with us instead of just running your mouth and making a fool out of yourself.
If you don't have instructive information to share than just shut up, no one cares about what you thinik!!!

Well, start by learning to read and write the English language, this will enable you to communicate the truth and you don't have to rely on some "Rev. Orta" to spread his lies and hate about our local law enforcement. Keep loading them up and sending them back across the border (don't drop them from 20,000 ft. this time), let them get a green card and then come on back and go to work. It's the legal thing to do and then you and your families can stay and work together and build a new life here in America. If you don't want to do it that way, well, all I can offer is a tissue.

#9 perhaps you can explain to us why you call the only OK legislator to put some teeth into immigration law enforcement, a "jackass of a legislator?" Looks like several other states disagree with you too.

sar - You little Reconquista, you. It's called "attrition through enforcement" - if the illegals' can't get jobs, leach off the public services, etc....they will go elsewhere. I would like to hope that "their elsewhere" is to their country of origin but if that's not the case, they are free to go to another state where people with your mindset are happy to pay their bills. Yes to HB 1804 !

You are not "dumb Okies". I am proud of Randy Terrill and the State of Oklahoma and the "LEGAL" residents of your beautiful State. I can't wait for my State to take some action and free us of the 50-60 thousand "ILLEGAL ALIENS" we have here. We are the "First State" and will probably be the "Last State" to take action on the "illegal Immigration"...but I'm working on it! We must keep this in mind...to enter this Country is a privilege...it is not a right.
No "ILLEGAL ALIEN" has a right to be here! All the best, OKLAHOMA!

Whatever we decide to do with the 20-30+ million
illegal aliens in the USA ,we have to realize that this
is NOT immigration of olde not even Illegal immigration
of olde ! A population equal to 4 or 5 U.S. States combined
or if you will 1/5 of another country ,lets say Mexico.. have
ILLEGALLY entered the USA and are marching in our
streets waving foreign flags and demanding we give
them full rights of citizenship! First World countries
all over the world are facing Illegal Human Waves
and must control immigration or be Overrun and Overwhelmed!

I am glad to see other states finally deciding to take up the reigns that the federal government dropped years ago.
It is way past time for illegal immigration to end. It is time for those who don't want to obey our immigration laws to leave. 1804 finally put some teeth into our immigration laws and I am proud to see someone step up to these illegal immigrants and say "not in our state!"

A cousin who lives in Rhode Island told me that they are circulating a petition to get the legislation submitted to the state legislature, and to show the widespread support for it.
It's a very blue state, but have been pleasantly surprised to see how much support democratic voters are calling to learn how they can sign on to the petition. How angry they are at their state reps and senators. I believe that the majority of Americans are demanding that a common sense law like this is be enacted all across the country. Oklahoma is leading the country.

#9 - sar - You are so right! What were the rest of us thinking? We don't have ENOUGH illegal aliens sponging off of our resources! Heck, let's import some Chinese, Middle Eastern, Eurpoean, etc. illegal aliens so we can COMPLETELY bankrupt the system! Legal citizens deserve no consideration when it comes to allocation of our tax dollars. I'm with you! Let's blow it all on the illegals and their illegitimate anchor babies!

Oklahoma is in the forefront of the anti-illegal alien movement and I love it.Over 90% of the legislature voted for the popular HB1804 and this shows democracy at its best. The illegals alien lawbreaker lobby and its shills led by the odious Tulsa World, the perfidious Catholic hierarchy. and the slave labor backers at the Chamber of Commerce hate the will of the people and will do whatever they can to defeat us but The people LOVE HB1804.The greasy so-called reverends can whine away-Randy Terrill and most Oklahomans will push on to make our state illegal alien free.
