Vote in a poll: Should Richard Roberts return as the president of ORU?

A new survey of ORU faculty shows that most don't want Richard Roberts to remain as president.

More than 80 percent of the Oral Roberts University faculty do not want Richard Roberts to continue as president of the evangelical school, a new survey shows.

The overwhelming "no" vote was part of a larger, eight-question survey conducted twice during Monday's faculty assembly and obtained by The Associated Press. It included vote tallies for each question and the percentage of faculty members voting each way.

The survey comes a week after tenured faculty voted "no confidence" in Roberts as president, regardless of the outcome of a lawsuit that accuses him and his family of misusing ORU and Oral Roberts Ministries money and resources.

Roberts is on a leave of absence as president while ORU's board and independent auditors investigate the allegations. After the investigations, the board will decide if Roberts returns to the presidency.

Accusations of lavish spending were detailed in a wrongful termination

lawsuit filed Oct. 2 by three former ORU professors.

An ORU professor who wished to remain anonymous told the Tulsa World on Monday that faculty gathered for their monthly meeting and responded to survey questions regarding the issues that accreditation representatives raised this month: governance, fiscal accountability and leadership.

Although the faculty have met several times with ORU's regents, they wanted to provide the board with statistics on professors' views of how the university is doing, the professor said.

About 150 full-time faculty, including no one above the level of department chairman or chairwoman, completed the survey, the professor said. Roberts and Provost Mark Lewandowski asked to attend the meeting but were not allowed.

The professor declined to detail the survey's responses or even the questions, wanting regents to have a chance to process the results before the information was made public.

But according to the survey obtained by the AP, nearly 90 percent of the faculty thought the school's current procedures for financial disclosure and accountability were inadequate, and more than 74 percent of those polled did not believe that alumni would continue to support ORU if Richard Roberts remains president.

Additionally, a majority of faculty members thought university administrators, such as the president, deans and department chairs, should be evaluated yearly by the faculty and that faculty should be involved in determining the selection criteria for, and selection of, the school's president.

An ORU spokesman declined to comment on the results late Monday.

Two surveys were taken at the meeting. In the first "pre-survey," nearly 78 percent of faculty members said they believed that Richard Roberts should not continue as president, and about 16 percent were undecided.

After the first survey, tenured faculty members discussed the three motions they passed last week: the "no confidence" vote against Richard Roberts; a vote of "confidence" in Lewandowski, the school's executive vice president for academic affairs and provost, "with regard to his call for greater faculty governance and transparency of university finances;" and the desire of the faculty to have a greater role in how university leadership is selected.

After the discussion, the fac ulty were polled again.

The "post-survey" revealed that more than 80 percent of faculty members believed that Roberts should not continue as president, while nearly 12 percent were still undecided.

"When it's that overwhelming of a vote, when does Richard start thinking more about the needs of the university than his own needs?" asked Tulsa attorney Gary Richardson, who is representing the three professors in their lawsuit against ORU. "What does the vote have to be?"

The lawsuit against Roberts includes allegations of a $39,000 shopping tab at one store for Richard Roberts' wife, Lindsay Roberts; a $29,411 Bahamas senior trip on the university jet for one of the Roberts' daughters and a stable of horses for the Roberts children.

Richard and Lindsay Roberts have denied wrongdoing and Richard Roberts has said the lawsuit amounts to "intimidation, blackmail and extortion."

Last week, Lewandowski offered to resign in a letter to Regents Chairman George Pearsons, saying he cannot "in good conscience serve under (Roberts') leadership," and wants the board to vote on his offer at its Nov. 27 meeting.

Lewandowski's letter described a "culture of fear" promoted by Roberts' management style and said Roberts has not addressed ORU's increasing debt.

COMMENT # 2 -- Why Richard will stay on as president.

From today's article

Roberts is on a leave of absence as president while ORU's board and independent auditors investigate the

allegations. After the investigations, the

investigations, the board will decide if Roberts returns to the presidency.

-------------------------------------

I predict 3 "outside, independent" reports will provide cover for the BOR to return Richard as president. They are:

1) the independent outside accountants report .

This is being done by a third-level accounting firm located in the backyard of two BOR members under Senate investigation --- Copeland and Hinn.

Who knows what links or connections they

have?

-- Who chose them?

--What role did Pearsons, the embattled Copeland's son-in-law -- and BOR chairman have?

--Why from the Copeland /Hinn neck of the woods?

--Why not a Big Four accounting firm, clearly independent?

-- This "outside, independent" report smacks of a white-wash, and is tainted before it's released.

-- Again, why not a definitive report addressing the specific issues raised from prestigious, first-level accounting firm -- and do it right?

-- especially that issue of 8.8 million for a Student Center that doesn't exist.

-- The issues are big enough.

-- If I was Richard I'd pay for an audit of the issues by a prestigious firm myself to put these questions to rest.

-- the whole accounting thing smells.

2) Outside, independent law firm investigation.

Remember, Enron ordered an investigation by a law firm which cleared them of all wrong-doing.

-- What is the scope of their investigation?

--Did it include finances, or the ethical questions raised?

--Does it include the issue of h 8.8 million for the non-existent Student Center?

--What authority did they have to probe?

--What is included -- or not included -- in the -to-be expected "clean bill of health"?

3) A poll of their own by an "outside polling company

-- the one that's been calling alumni.

I predict it will "find" the alumni want Richard to stay on.

Sure, a vocal minority want him to go, but the outside, professional poll by the NY company will show most support Richard staying.

Hey folks, you've got your faculty poll.

We've got a better on.

LOOK FOR THESE 3 TO PROVIDE COVER for the BOR to back Richard.

Blogger #17, interesting post. Who is the independent auditing firm? Most definitely, if this auditing firm has any connection with Copeland and Hinn, it will be skewed....and a worthless audit.

I don't agree that most alumni want RR to stay. ....it is not reflected in the giving by alumni. I truly believe that if alumni liked how the school was being managed, they would give. Perhaps I am just looking at it from my own viewpoint.

Any way, I am more optimistic that with the staff and Public Opinion coming down so hard on RR, why would he want to come back? While he would want to save face and wants the $, an uprising on the ORU reservation is evident.

I have all intentions of filing suit on my behalf and of others who have contacted me, which may not accomplish anything but get a "real" auditing firm involved, provided that this current one is hand-picked by the Copeland group.

Does any one know about Bill Joe Daughtry. I always thought he was a person of integrity. Perhaps that was vain hope since he has been a BOR for many years and let this crap go on. The way I see it, I would not serve on a Board if it was "stacked" with individuals like Copeland, Hinn, L Lea, Tilton, Dollar, J Meyers, etc. So, this, alone, makes me wonder about BJ Daughtry. I have not kept up with it.

ALL THREE 'OUTSIDE' REPORTS ARE STACKED DECKS.

I think all three smell.

The audit by the third-level north Texas accounting firm is especially suspect.

The legal firm review depends on wthat they review, whaht access, what their madate was, how it was carried out -- and a lot of other things.

I personally think it will be a general report, not dealing with the specific issues.

The "poll" is window-dressing of course, to counter faculty polls. There's no way a majority of Alumni want Richard back.

What is the methodology used?

Who from the outside can check and verify?

I believe all three are nothing but pr ploys and orchestrated window-dressing -- to give cover to the BOR to do wants Oral wants.

And they shouldn't be allowed to get away with it.

--that's how I see it.

Deuteronomy 18:22

when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.

1. A prophet must be an Israelite. (Born again Bible - adhering Christians, being spiritual Israel, thereby qualify)

2. Prophets must speak not of their own accord or in their own name or any other, but in the Name of the Lord only.

3. Prophecies must be consistent with prior revelation.

4. Prophecies must not encourage idolatry or any other sin.

5. All prophecies must come true.

No gag order is in place at this time.

A petition for one was filed by Roberts' attorneys, which I understand will be ruled on in the early Dec. hearings.

Richard has probably already blown any chance of getting the gag order by giving interviews and trying to clean up his public image.

The name of the relativevly small accounting firm in N. Texas was posted, but I don't remember it.

Mys guess is Pearsons (chairman of the BOR and son-in-law of Copeland, and Copeland picked it.)

Perhaps someone can remind us he name and location.

Yes, contrary to OT scripture stating a TRUE prophet of God is never wrong, the charasmatic prophets believe it's okay to give false prophecies. I saw Benny teach on this... he said when you are first learning to use the "gift of prophecy" alot of times you mess up, and don't hear correctly. But the more you practice the better you get. He said at this point in his life, he is never wrong, but it took him time to get to where he is. I kid you not, this is what they teach and believe.I've heard most all of them say/teach the same thing, not surprisingly, they have almost all of them given false prophecies at some point in their ministries. God says one mistake and you are out... but these prophets add to God's Word and teach another gospel, saying that a true prophet can give a false prophecy. Again the question arises, who are you going to believe? God or man?

#20 Grassley

Senator Grassly, while not chairman, in the ranking member -- top republican.

However this committee is very bi-partisan and Grassley and Sen Baucas, the chairman,

have a long and excellent record of working together.

For purposes of these tv evangelists

they will be united.

Some things smell so much partisan politics takes a back seat.

It think this is one of them.

And how much better a conservative republican Christian senator is leading this major investigation.

(It was't smart for Copeland's web site to post the chapel service where one of the Copelands called this inquiry

the work of the Anti-Christ.

Not a good way to win friends and influence people -- but then, though they're good at fund-raising, these folks are rocket scientists..

They';re just ORU Regents

I guess they'll have future BOR meetings at various federal correctional institutions

Oh, did you hear that in an effort to up-grade the ethical standards of he BOR they've asked

"Dr. Barry Bonds" to come on board as co-chairman?

IT IS JUST A SHAME!!!!!! Corrupt and unethical U.S. senators to investigate false prophets televangelists, including ORU regents? IT IS JUST A CRYING SHAME!!!!!!!

-

It is just a shame

That people do not think.

They just talk to hear themselves.

It was not to very long ago

They were singing his praises.

Now, they call him a false prophet.

-

They just do not understand

They were at all his meetings

Raising their hands in agreement

To every word he said.

If he is really a false prophet,

Then, they are followers, students,

Teachers, preachers, and believers

Of this false prophet too.

From what I hear, RR is going to be named Chancellor and OR will be moved to Chancellor Emeritus or something. This way RR keeps the house and has no day to day role.

QUESTION FOR THOSE IN CHARISMATIC CIRCLES ON PROPHETS

How does the Charismatics/Pentacostals define "prophets". Are they allowed to "mess up" occasionally (written off sometimes due to the sin nature?) or should they be 100% correct all the time. Were any of the Biblical prophets "wrong"-if so, were they then considered charlatans ?? Inquiring minds would like to know !!

There were 2 votes today. OR and RR showed up and tried to attend. The folks at the door refused them entry. They were not "happy campers." But they really won't be happy with the results of the votes! I'll just leave it at that.

That's AWESOME!!!

So OR didn't get the chance to strong-arm them by playing the "now don't you want to start fresh" guilt trip on them !!!!

Have any of you noticed the new AP story this morning, regarding the problems at yet another charismatic mega $ ministry, founded by Earl Paulk in Atlanta? There are many similarities between OR's family, this guy and the reasons behind the eventual downfall of their organization. The latest revelation about this Paulk guy is that he fathered a child by his wife's sister, the kid was raised thinking of the minster as "Uncle Earl", and then was eventually placed in the leadership role of that ministry. Now the story is coming to light and causing major problems for them.

Carl has it right. Oral pulls the strings and will find a way to

re-instate" RR. The Roberts family will find a way to continue the gravy train even though the dynasty is basically bankrupt. The only hope for the university is the senate investigation. Keep in mind that Sen Grassely is in the minority there. Hopefully the corrupt BOR and Roberts family will be exposed for what they are...scammers. Been going on for YEARS. The whole bunch needs to be flushed. Hopefully it can be done with minimal effect on faculty and students.

I left out another question. Did someone say there was a gag order in place concerning the professors' lawsuit?

If so, If RR and the "Pro-RR BOR" did hire some 2-bit auditing firm that they can manipulate, publishing the audit report prior to any jury trial would taint the jury pool?????

Sadly, regardless of who does the audit, RR getting into the cookie jar too many times is not the real issue. The real issue is getting a new President and Board that can get ORU out of debt. I have seen it first-hand time and time how these small, private schools will have one president that will get them in trouble, and with a new president, the school will have extra money. Obviously, the current BOR and President have failed and it is time for a change before the $50 Million debt put an end to ORU.

I would like to ask Copeland whether $20 Million and getting ORU on the right track and seeing thousands of students go into the world with the Gospel Mission woudl be a better use of "ministry" money than buying another jet that gets him to his multi-millon vacation homes to some conventions a couple of hours faster????
