But there’s no word yet on specific plans to collaborate.

No plans for collaboration between Oral Roberts University and Regent University had been announced as of Wednesday, but Regent President Pat Robertson issued a written statement offering help and affirmation to ORU.

Four Regent administrators, not including Robertson, and a former academic leader at the Virginia college visited ORU on Monday. ORU board of regents Chairman George Pearsons said last week that Robertson had offered advice to ORU officials on running the school and had contacted ORU board members to discuss options for the two Christian universities.

Robertson’s statement Wednesday said, “Regent stands ready to offer support and assistance to ORU,” but it did not give any details about what the school could offer.

Judy Baker, a spokeswoman for Regent, said she did not have specifics nor did she know when more information would be available.

Robertson’s statement also said that ORU Interim President Billie Joe Daugherty “asked me personally for specific recommendations which might be of help to ORU.”

Baker did not have more information.

ORU part-time instructor Dana Sterling said that to her knowledge,

“nothing has been decided.”

“Anything that might happen with Regent University is only in the talking stages,” she said. Sterling learned about the discussions during a small staff meeting in which the ORU Faculty Assembly president spoke.

ORU spokesman Jeremy Burton declined to talk about the visit from Regent officials or any possible collaborations.

Robertson said in his statement that ORU board members contacted him and asked “if there was anything we at Regent University could do to assist them during this difficult time.”

A lawsuit filed Oct. 2 by three former ORU professors claiming wrongful termination kick-started a chain of events at ORU that resulted in faculty voting “no confidence” in Richard Roberts as president.

Roberts resigned Nov. 23. The lawsuit alleged the Roberts family misspent ORU and Oral Roberts Ministries money, and ORU employees alleged Roberts had fostered a “culture of fear.” The Robertses have denied those claims.

Last week, Mardel Christian and educational supply stores founder Mart Green and his family, who also founded Hobby Lobby craft stores, offered ORU $70 million if financial and other changes are made at the school.

Robertson said the Regent officials who visited ORU observed, “The assets of ORU will allow them to restructure and recover from this temporary setback, and ORU will continue to be one of the premier Christian colleges in America.”

The visitors from Regent also praised ORU students, employees, alumni and ORU’s academic programs, according to Robertson’s statement.

Communication pathway Also Wednesday, ORU employees received a memo describing a “chairman’s council” in which Pearsons and Daugherty will regularly communicate university news to representatives of faculty, alumni, regents, vice presidents, staff and students to “make sure everyone knows what’s going on,” Sterling said. The group is scheduled to meet soon, she said.

Sterling described the mood at ORU as good.

“People are encouraged by the donors who have stepped forward,” she said. “We want to see the school succeed.”

Thank you Pat!

I for one take Robertson at face value and thank God that successful people have not only seen the value and potential at ORU, but are willing to step up and help.

One could come up with many ulterior motives that Robertson or Green might have but I see no advantage in going there.

It must be very embarrassing for Oral to have Pat Robertson offering to help straighten out the mess Richard has made of ORU. Oral couldn't make a go of his law school, dental school, medical school, and hospital (City of Faith), so why would anyone think things would be run any better at his school? Makes one wonder what goes on inside the ORM offices, too.

Does anybody know what the Faculty Assembly does? Is it like an academic senate?

#2 Larry 2 - "I for one take Robertson at face value and thank God that successful people have not only seen the value and potential at ORU, but are willing to step up and help."

.

Pat Robertson is a rightwing crank just like OR. I think nothing will change at ORU under a Robertson regieme, except perhaps the name.

.

I think Blood Diamonds U, Tulsa has a great ring to it.

.

"One could come up with many ulterior motives that Robertson or Green might have but I see no advantage in going there."

.

Why not? Neither is trustworthy in my book -- what multimillionaire businessman ever gives away anything unless they can get something of equal or greater value in return?

.

As for Theocrat Pat, he's so far gone with xenophobic hate he's flipped his lid. His antics can only further tar the image of ORU, both within American Christendom and without.

robertson is better at seperating people from their money than little richard and lindsay. He has "revelations" and he makes predictions as if he considers himself a prophet.he is no prophet, otherwise his predictions would not fail.he refused to board a ship going to Korea and was considered AWOL until his congressman daddy got him off the hook.He was then given the job as liquor procurement officer for the officers club in Korea.he has visions and hears voices and these messages are contradictory and self serving. He has entered into diamond and gold scams with dictators.sounds like more of the same for the strange looking campus on South Lewis.

The school definitely needs a new name...something with a cool ring to it like Billy Joe Jim Bob University (BJJB U) or Creflo Dollar University, CDU for short...gotta love the irony in that name!

From the ORU Website:

.

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,

.

The feedback of the students, faculty, staff and alumni is very important to the future success of ORU. And it is important to the Board of Regents. Because of this, Acting President Billy Joe Daugherty and I have formed the Chairman’s Council.

.

The objectives for this Chairman’s Council are twofold. First, we would like to provide an opportunity for Dr. Daugherty and me to update key individuals across the university on issues that the Board of Regents is discussing. Second, we would like to provide a forum for dialog about those issues and an opportunity for us to gather ideas and opinions to take back to the full board. These key individuals can also serve as the communication link back to the groups they represent.

.

A group of individuals has been chosen that represents a broad cross-section of the university. We will meet for the first time on Thursday in what I believe will become a regularly scheduled Chairman’s Council meeting. The representatives on the Chairman’s Council include:

.

University Vice Presidents

David Ellsworth

Dr. Mark Lewandowski

Mike Bernard

Dr. Nancy Brainard

Mike Carter

Dr. Ralph Fagin

Dr. Jeff Ogle

Tim Philley

David Wagner

.

University Associate Vice President

George Paul

.

Representatives from Deans Council

Dr. Thomson Mathew

Dr. Debbie Sowell

Dr. Clarence Boyd

Dr. Cal Easterling

.

Faculty Member at Large

Angela Graves

.

UFA President

Dr. Agena Farmer

.

Tenured Faculty Chair

Dr. Ken Weed

.

Staff Member at Large

Ron Lee

.

Student Association President

Adam Arrington

.

Alumni Association President

Rhae Buckley

.

Alumni Association Director

A New York Times article says that Pat Robertson has resigned as head of his empire, and his son has taken his place in running their affairs. Pat remains as president of Regency University. His son was quoted as saying that he and his dad do not always agree, and that where dad is emotional and impulsive, his son is logical and businessl-like in making decisions. Perhaps this adds a note of hope in this sea of despair.

The "boss" may be gone. May, because that's not sure yet. But his lieutenants are not.

The "little RR's" who were complicit in his shenanigans are still there. So what's different?

They don't deserve your support, Mr. Green.

Get out while you can.

They'll fit in perfectly with Robertson's weird prophetic uttering and ways.

I agree with Evans.

Herd them all under Robertson's roof and be done with it.

Finally, some good news on these blogs...

Footnote 2

-----------------------------------

Regent Site Team Praises ORU

Dr. Pat Robertson, President and Chancellor of Regent University issued the following statement:

I have always loved and admired Oral Roberts and the ministry and culture of Oral Roberts University. I was recently contacted by members of their Board of Regents and asked if there was anything we at Regent University could do to assist them during this difficult time.

I immediately asked one of our Board members to head a team composed of a former Dean of our Divinity School, the head of Facilities Management, the head of Information Technology, the head of Human Resources, and the Head of Finance and Administration to visit the ORU Campus. Today they returned with the following observations:

The faculty, staff, students and alumni are dedicated, concerned and loving people who are doing their very best during this difficult time.

The assets of ORU will allow them to restructure and recover from this temporary setback and ORU will continue to be one of the premier Christian Colleges in America!

The academic program at ORU is outstanding!

Regent stands ready to offer support and assistance to ORU. We have made this known to their board and staff. Our prayers will continue and we firmly believe that something good will happen as a result of the recent changes at ORU.

Dr. Billy Joe Daugherty, the Interim President of ORU expressed his appreciation for the time and efforts and encouragement provided by the Regent team, and asked me personally for specific recommendations which might be of help to ORU.

One of the essential elements of Christian leadership is a teachable mind.

If ORU's Regent's can't pull themselves together and build a good future for ORU, then the state of the crisis extends much further than Tulsa.

Let's just watch and pray. Whatever we may thing of some of their more flamboyant shenanigans, the regents should possess the minimum requirements of Christian leadership. Therefor, some change for the better should be a foregone conclusion.

Should those changes for the better fail to emerge, we should all take it as a indictment against their entire subculture, not just a problem at ORU.

I for one, am perfectly content to allow ORU to be the "canary in the mine". If ORU thrives, well and good. If the regents cannot or will not fix the problems, then it's time to panic!

Seen from this perspective, keeping the board of regents intact is a good thing. This is a very public experiment that will either redeem the board members or demonstrate their intransigence.

Liz--Your comments are well said. In years past, "the canary in the mine" was the first signal of danger for gas poisoning in mines. Now they have electronic gas detectors. Let's hope that ORU uses the basics as well as the latest tools to move forward. The fact that the BOR called on a similar private university like Regent for their advise, shows that they are reaching out.

I am thankful for men like Rick Warren. Yes, there are SOME genuine pastors and shepherds with us. I also believe there are SOME genuine ORU Board of Regents members. Why are the good ones (on the board) allowing the phoney televangelists - full-of-themselves- and promoting false doctrine - to remain on the board????? I think that until ORU cleans up its Board of Regents - nothing good will come out of this present situation.

Unlike Marion G. "Pat" Robertson, I have never known Granville Oral Roberts to preach politics from the pulpit or from any of his TV shows. I never heard OR say that a leader of a country should be assassinated.

--

In the Greek text of the Bible, "poimen" is the word for both pastor and shepherd. It is the English Bible translators who called "poimen" by different names.

--

The English vocabulary to translate the Hebrew and Greek languages of the original texts is more than double both of those languages combined.

What's Rick Warren talking about? He's one of the biggest takers of all! In 1996 he intentionally exceeded the fair-market value for his housing allowance (which is non-taxed) by a whole lot. I mean a whole lot (just google this--you'll find it all over the internet). The IRS came after him and he sued them.

Yes, he sued them!

The IRS said, "OK, we'll just take this helpful item away from all ministers because of Warren."

Thanks Rick! He had to give in or have worse press than RR ever had.

Ever since these article have begun so much wrong information has been give to the public. Bunch of double-talk.
